First things first try to find some rings.
If I put them back on ebay, I am going to wait until my feedback is old enough that no one can see what I paid for them. Plus, with a little cleanup, they look a heck of a lot better than when I bought them.

As far as rings go, I spoke to Redline Cycle in Skokie, IL today. They build mostly older KZ bikes. They recommend I call Total Seal, but said they might have to be special made.

      pistons

You should be able to bore the pin out to 18mm and then have the circlip grooves recut, but if I remember correctly the kawasaki valve angles are different than the Suzuki. So even though they are larger than the valve reliefs in your stock piston, depending on valve angle you could possibly end up with less valve clearance. Bottom line is could you make them work? Sure but by the time you get done with the machine work you would probabaly be better off getting the correct piston for your application. Relist them on ebay, don't worry about what you paid, none of those Kawasaki guys are looking at Suzuki parts! Take the money and put it towards a good set of pistons.

        WOW..
all i can say is WOW.
        how long is this thread?
        39 pages or something?
        well, maybe not that long.
17mm is old kz/z1 kawi stuff.
        gpz/ maybe late gpz 83-84 was 18mm.
yes valve angles and combustion chamber/dome area's are differant for sure.
i would drive to the ebay sellers house and give him a Z1 enima with them...one at a time.
        retarded people selling m/c parts.
        geesh.
if he has any sack at all he'll refund your money no questions asked!

Well, maybe he knew, maybe he didn't, but I suspect he never measured the pins & thought they were Yosh style pistons... He had two sets listed, and the other I was sure was a GS piston because I had one to compare. If he was trying to make any money on them and actually knew they were for a KZ, I suspect he'd have listed them that way.

Maybe I shouldn't, but I am taking some of the blame because I had plenty of time and did not confirm the wristpin size. Frankly, even though I haven't been working on Suzuki's that long, I should have known better.

The more I think about it, I'll probably re-list them on e-bay myself. Frankly, they are a lot nicer than they appeared after soaking them in some carb cleaner & wiping off the carbon. I've only got $50 bucks in them & honestly, they look like new. The oil rings are the same as a Wiseco 73mm piston, so basically everything rides on fact they have a dykes compression ring, which might be hard, expensive to find, or have made.

Hopefully, a few KZ guys will fall all over them and I'll get back more than I paid.

Need a bunch of bidders so they go real high, so Rapidray and I can have a chat about his pistons... I'm gonna need to sell a bunch of stuff on ebay for those

If you post them on ebay make SURE you list them under AHRMA as one of the categories. The vintage racers will pay good money for these parts! Ray.

Well, their on ebay now.. I was considering claying the head and figuring out how the valve pockets were going to look, but I can't do that until after I bore the block, so it would have been just another delay to a project I already wanted to have started in June.

I never really looked. I tried to call TotalSeal twice, but never got to speak to anyone.
After that, I decided to go ahead and try to sell them.

I really want to do something other than the standard Wiseco 1085 kit with this build, but keep it a street bike, well, mostly a street bike. I might have to look into the CP pistons or some other options and see where that takes me.

I did finally speak to Total Seal. They could have made dykes rings for without a problem, I just needed to send them a piston. They quoted me $150 for four sets (compression & oil rings)

I ended up listing the pistons on ebay. This time correctly as KZ pistons and they sold for $157, so in the end, I made $100 in whole deal

Yea, I lucked out, but that goes to show that you need to list things right on ebay. Now, about those CP's.. do you work there??
