easiest way to monoshock?

This question is for 80GS1000 or anyone else who has info. I'm putting an '07 GSXR swingarm into an '81 GS1100E frame. How did you get the pivot bolt area on older frame to accept the new swingarm? Older frame pivot bolt hole is smaller than GSXR pivot bolt.

Uhhh ... dude ... you do realize that you just dragged up a thread whose most-recent post was FOUR YEARS AGO?

About the only poster in the thread that might still be around is the one to whom you addressed your question (80GS1000), but his latest activity on the forum was three and a half months ago. You might get a quicker response if you sent him an e-mail (assuming that it is still active).

GS-H, I have seen many better ways for someone on this site to admit that they have no idea what you are talking about and have never done anything like it before themselves such as not replying to your post at all among other things.
Perhaps if you just start a new thread, the several members of this forum that DO know and HAVE done it might get the opportunity to respond?
Just a thought as this one has gone down the crapper.

Speaking as someone who had done a mono conversion I wouldn't say it was easy but for someone who has reasonably good fabricating skills it's not that hard to do either. Swapping out the pivot bushing to accommodate the larger bolt was the most challenging part. My results have been awesome well worth all the work.

Done a monoshock mod on several Katanas. Bigger pivot spindles are no problem, you can make some bushes to accept the GS spindle. Common way when you take B12 swingers. IMHO these are best option as they are a bit smaller on the pivot. Most of the other swingers are wider and have to be narrowed.
For the upper shock mount there are several options, either weld in or bolt on. Just as for the dog bones's mounting points. Either weld on new ones or use the centre stand bracketry. (I did brace these on the bikes I did so.)

First one is my recent project. Upper shock mound is bolt on alloy part, Öhlins shock and lower mount welded to the frame. GSXR swinger.

Next bike was the first kat I ever monoshocked. Took a RC 36 swinger, modified it heavily. Upper shock mount welded into the frame, lower on the braced centre stand mounts. Wilbers mono shock at some point, in the first few years I used a GSXR shock.





Third bike is my wife's Kat, used by me as a daily ride...

Upper shock mound alloy bolt in version, lower just as on the green Kat. Bandit 12 swinger and shock.
