gsxr forks on a 400?

Does anyone know if gsxr forks/tree ect will fit a gs400? I need some new innner fork tubes and was wondering about just replacing the whole setup with gsxr parts. I think it all depends on the whether or not the stem on the tripple tree will fit the neck ? Ideas, opinions?

If you use either gsxr400 or rgv250 & the steering stem wont fit your frame it should be possible to swap the stems or get a new one made up, fork length may be a problem though

Just to be clear its been a long time since i messed with a gs400 so its only an educated guess the stem in the gs isnt welded is it ?

Neither of those bikes was available here in the "bigger is better" US of A.

I wonder if a later GS500 front end might be a better donor for a transplant. You wouldn't get the fancy multi-adjustable upside-downy goodness of a GSXr front end, but you'd get a darn nice 41mm fork, and you might be able to score all the associated parts (brakes, instruments, lights, etc.) as well to make a clean conversion.

yes the stem on the gs400 is welded on. Does anyone have any measurements on the stems?

The GS400 has 25&27mm stem with 48MM od on both bearings.
Most all the newer bikes went up to a 30mm lower stem that is a 55mm od still with a 25X48mm top.
The 30X48mm bearing is available for some Suzuki dirt bikes and Yamaha road bikes, I do not recall what models off the top of me head.
The swap is pretty easy though.

I swapped a front from a CB700SC to my GS450. The stem is welded but grinding the weld and swapping out stems was not a big problem.

Bwringer...if you're talking about the same L2 GS500 sold today, they have 36mm forks...not 41mm. Also, though the GSXR400 wasn't sold here, the GSF400 was...if I'm not mistaken, though I could be, the B400 has the same forks as the GSXR400.

I'll take your word for it! I don't have a GS500 handy to take measurements, and I'm not sure where I got the 41mm idea. So never mind all that. And come to think of it, the GS500 only has one rotor up front, so just about any other transplant candidate would be better.

The tasty Bandit 400 was indeed sold here in the states. However, maybe 10 or 12 of these sweet little beasties made it across the border, so you're not going to easily find their parts.

I could say for sure that a stem from a gs500 won 't fit the steerer tube on the frame of a gs400"e" or "s" ( know as gsx400 in europe the 8 valves head ) . The steerer from the 500 is too short period .

Ducati Pantah Marzocchi's will fit - I've got them on my race GS450
And you go up to nice 35mm stanchions also
