I really think the GS500/etc wheel is the best up front for your application.

can i use the wheel or not? i bought it because i had finally settled on those wheels as replacements to my star wheels that i hated so much. i wanted spokes originally, then i got into the idea of more modern wheels and RADIAL tires. after crunching numbers, i figured the k4 GSXR1000 front end swap was out of my budget, i figured just swapping in wheels with my existing forks and maybe an 1100 swingarm would make me happy.

Okay this took a lot of hunting to find...just keep that in mind...
go here:
Bearings Direct has the highest quality ball bearings, roller bearings, linear bearings, and mounted bearings. Check out our catalog of bearings. All of which are available here at your online bearing wholesaler and supplier Bearings Direct!
That's the bearing you need. You need two of them. You're still going to have to sort something for the bearing spacer inside the wheel. We'll have to see if your GS piece matches to space given in the GSXR wheel.
Rotors are your next concern.

HA! i sourced the exact same bearing! you know what it's for? automotive alternators.
rotors? cant i use the rotors that are for the wheel IE early GSXR or katana rotors? plus, i cant seem to find where to buy rotors for motorcycles, like lists and pictures and options. it seems its only EBC and Galfer, and finding fitments and prices is difficult.

I'm pretty sure the 1988 GSXR750 uses the same rotors as the GS500 so they'll be pretty easy to source. Mid-90's (the swoopy wheel ones) Katana 600's, Bandit 1200's, GS500's, GSF400's, and a few others all carry the same rotors. eBay usually have an assortment...
If I'm not mistaken just about all the swoopy-spoke wheels have the same bolt pattern so you can get rotors from the GSXR750 you got the wheel from or you can get Bandit 600 rotors or Katana rotors...but you have to look for a bike that has a 110~120mm tire up front standard (meaning it's a 3~3.5 wheel) and comes with 4 or 6 piston calipers. You have to look at that because the donor bike has to be equiped with offset rotors...if the rotors aren't offset they won't work.
I can probably find you a couple GS500 rotors...310mm is about teh best you can get with zooki rotors...I'll get back to you on it.
If I ever have a $600 check burning a hole in my pants I'd get these...

bandit 12 & slingshot disc diameters are the same but the ofsett is different by 2mm, bandit 6 discs smaller dia than the above, early kat discs different again, slabside gsxr discs different, not sure about the gs 500 discs but i suspect they are the same as b6 (check it please) you could throw RF600 or 900 into the mix as well
early watercooled discs as per b12 & slingshot later ones where the flat ( no ofsett) type as per hyabusa & TL1000
nissin 4 & 6 pot calipers from the 90's gsxr's have 90mm centre mounting holes the same as early (hinkley) triumph calipers (same thing but badged differently) some late model tociko 6 pot calipers from suzuki's & kawasaki's also 90mm (ofsetts vary 1mm) lates suz stuff went to narrower mount points, bandit 6 & rf 6 calipers 2 pot with narrow centres for the mount holes
slingshot curved spoke rear wheels mainly 4.5" rear change to 5.5" around 91-92 fronts are 3.5" bandit 12 5.5" rear & 3.5" front bandit 6 4.5" rear 3" front ..... RF900/ 600 a lottery on the front sizes depending on the intended market rears as per bandits
hope it helps

B12 and GS500 are the same...I've never seen a flat B12 disc. All 310mm and same offset as all B12 discs are a bolt on for GS500's. I don't know about RF600...they use same as B6 I think, which are different. '94 era Katana 600 discs are also a direct bolt on for the GS500.

Calipers don't matter...he can use any caliper...he has to build a new hanger for them either way, so he can use just about any caliper and any disc diamter/offset. The discs just have to bolt to the wheel.
Patience, Jed...we're trying to find out if you can use the wheel. I still stand by my original advice, though, and tell the guy to keep the wheel since he lied about it, then find a GS500 wheel...I've already done it and can tell you EXACTLY what you need for the GS500 wheel.

Calipers & ofsetts were mentioned for when/ if you experiance clearance issues with the wheel he is thinking of using
