Good sites, but just like to point out that (around my parts at least) that "Jap" is kinda derogatory, just a heads up.

It all depends on how it's said. We fought the Japanese on this side of the Pacific too remember. For many years after WW2 'Jap' was derogatory. These days it's just short for Japanese. We're a fairly irreverent lot down here.
An interesting point (slight hijack) - Australian Aborigines are happy to be called 'black fellas' so long as it's not said in a derogatory way. There was an Aboriginal rock band here that wrote a song called Black Fella, White Fella. ('fella' is Aussie slang for fellow) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFXRSnQU1rs In some parts of the world that would probably start a riot.Last edited by Guest; 05-01-2009, 07:35 AM.

I was just trying to point out that "around my parts" it IS derogatory. If I walked around Vancouver saying "know any good Jap resteraunts" I would offend someone, or "know where to get parts for Jap bikes" etc.
Negro is just spanish for black and it is offensive, guido is just an italian name and it can be offensive, Hebe is just short for Hebrew and it's offensive. Frogs are just amphibians and that is offensive. I really shouldn't have to explain it this much. In certain places certain words are offensive, doesn't matter what their origins are.
I only mentioned it in case there might be a member of Japanese heritage from a part of the world that takes offence to "Jap" on this site, not too far fetched is it?

We were just pointing out exactly what you just ranted about. I suppose that by now any 'Japs' that may be reading this thread would realise that no offense was intended.

I'm not mad at all, sorry if I came across that way YOU JERK!
I'll make myself some vegimite tea.
I am actually a pretty big supporter of the "sticks and stones" approach to life, words and labels only have power if you give them power.
I was just falling into the internet pit of posts not carrying your tone of voice and facial expressions. Alls gud!
