I tried this because my bike had problems running 4k + rpm in yet weather and was reading it might be bad wires. I ran into a few snags. I found my bad wires but they broke off right at the top of the coil so I couldn't pull them out. I figure if the wire is just impaled in there anyway I could get solid copper housing wire (cause I'm doing work on my house). I could drill down some, shove that down into the wire I can't get out and it will be like a new pin for the new wire. But 12 gauge is a bit big so I had to sand it down some and while I was at it put a point on each end. It works nice. Next problem the new wires don't have 1,2,3,4 written on them. I start the bike and it didn't sound right well I better put the tank back on. Start again I thought someone took a shot at me. After messing around thinking oh crap what did I do I'm going to need new coils now I started pulling wires off plugs while it was running. 1 and 2 didn't change the motor 3 and 4 stalled it so I swapped 1 and 2 and OH YEAH! So now I need a test day so see if that fixed the problem. Which the way the sky looks it might be soon.

I'll chime in that a set of Dyna green coils and new wires on my old GS550E were a nice upgrade. It started very quickly, even when warm.

I wouldnt mind just chaning out the coils along with the wires to make it easy and relieve the 25+ year old coils. Where can I pick up a set of aftermarket coils for an 83 GS550e??
          Thanks

Call me at 714-356-7845. I can get you a Dyna S ignition, coils & wires all from DYNATEK as I am a dealer for them. Your bike will run so much cleaner & crisper that you will LOVE the difference! Even if you just want to do the coils & wires you will love the improvement. I just can't understand why anyone would replace the wires & want to keep using STOCK coils. Not to mention the time WASTED in modifying the stock coils to accept newer wires. 30 YEARS of improvement & better technology is so CHEAP for the improvement! If I can help anyone with any of the Dyna parts, call me! Ray.

No need for the Dyna S on a bike that already has electronic ignition...unless it fails. I converted my '79 550E to electronic with a Dyna S because it had points.

klarowe, if Ray can't get you the right coils, you can buy them directly from Dyna at www.dynaonline.com (I think). They may be a touch cheaper if you try CycleRecycle2 www.usedmotorcycleparts.com if they can get them. Call and ask for Rob.

I used Bandit coils and new wires/caps on my 750. Can't say if it was a huge improvement or not as I upgraded/rebuilt so much else, but the bike runs wonderfully.

Hey Ray........ do you have an update on my ignition parts? I ordered them and paid for them the last week of April and I haven't heard from you for the last 2 weeks since you said you were going to send them to me, none of my PMs have been answered since......

I didn't want to post this in an open forum for others to see, but you haven't responded to me via PM.......

Weather has been nice, I'm riding my bike as I upgrade here and there....but when someone pays someone else $350 for Dynatek coils/wires and K&N Pods we expect to get our parts!!

Just a little frustrated here, and don't know what else to do....
