Nope, the '80 only has a LH brake.
I'm still interested in upgrading that side.

PM sent. Single side uses the Blackbird rotor. There's no caliper bracket both sides & the existing is in a different spot to the twin brake models as the singles rotor is larger dia as stock.

GS650G fork legs would slide straight into your triples (35mm) if you wanted to go dual.

Does anybody want a full set? Concourse calipers (about as new as you can get) in great shape, silver color.
Need new pads as they are right on the wear limit.

F4 rotors (the lightest ones) like the ones in my sig.
Can include the additional M10 bolts & nuts needed if required.

        $275 delivered.

Looking into doing this on my 81 GS1000g.

Whats the easiest caliper and disk combo? as i haven't found a good list in this thread on what to use.

Im in Australia to so should be easy enough to find parts

              Dan,
Do you have a bracket for a twin piston caliper(which caliper will fit?)to work on my 81' GS450T running the stock size(274mm?)rotor ?
Will a twin pot improve braking over the stock caliper ?

              Comment

As long as the axle is directly under the fork the Bracket for the Tokico caliper will work but you will either have to switch to a GS550 rotor or a CBR rotor. Your braking will improve massively over the stock setup. Combination of more pistons, much bigger swept area etc,.

You'll need the hub spacer too (basically half a kit). PM if you do want a set. I can also help check out some Ebay links or whatever for correct rotor/caliper.

What size rotor is on the GS550,do you mean with only one left disc similar to the 81' GS550E? I think that 550E also has a 275mm rotor..
I want to keep using my 81' GS450T spoke wheels.
Yes,my front axle does sit right at the bottom of each fork slider.

295mm GS550 or GS750B/C/N 77-79 single disc rotors. Or the 296mm Honda floating rotors.
The GS rotors are substantially heavier, and will wear out substantially faster because of the steel they are made of is much softer, and the modern brake pads will tear into them a lot more because the brake pads themselves are harder. The Honda floating rotors are a much lighter weight & longer-lasting option. But you will need a 5mm rotor spacer for almost all of them

The larger than 450 GS single brake models (550, 750, 1000) use a 295mm dia rotor. It is not drilled but it is a Bolt-on. Likewise the Honda CBR rotor can be made to bolt on. Your Spoked wheel is not an issue... whatever you do that can remain!

One other option - 1 member made Valkyrie 1500 rotors fit using the kit. I've not tried it but it does give a different look/option. Again your spoke wheel will work with any of these.

                              Hey Dan

                              Re your brake kit.

The lower mount/hole on the fork leg , does it get a nut on the inside?
                              It's not a threaded hole.

Wish the pics on page 1 were still there.

                              Thanks
