Another oil cooler thread
I've been on here for a while looking around and asking questions about oil coolers for my 77 GS. I've finally gathered enough information and parts to get it together. It's been a bit tough and discouraging at times... the first oil cooler I bought turned out to be way too big, starter motor cover clearance was an issue, and I was plauged with mounting location indicision. It's been sorted out and I assembled it all last night, today I'll start it up to see if it leaks. Thanks to all those who shared information on this subject, without it I couldn't have finished.

Looks good. Is that a Terry oil cooler adapter? I did the same thing on my 79 750. No regrets. The little radiater dissapates a LOT of heat!
What is that foil looking stuff above your valve covers? Is it a heat wrap of some sort?

I made the oil cooler adaptor myself. The foil stuff is a heat shield. I put it on near the exhaust and over the valve cover, not only for heat protection, but to prevent the braided hose from rubbing on the aluminum.

Looks good.
Can you tell us what size lines you used for the cooler. I just ordered -3 for my brakes and was considering putting braided on the cooler too. Thanks in advance.

Nice looking cooler and good job building your own adapter. Does the adapter have an extension piece to go down into engines oil port and grab the flow? Also, what did you do for the pressure switch?Ed
To measure is to know.

I used a stock oil cooler off a 95 ZX6R, & I can't flip it, then the 90 elbows interfere with the fork legs. 1/4 npt to AN-8 fittings. And yes the adapter has a collar that goes into the motor.

Pressure switch is from a harley. It's the same style as most automobile oil pressure switches (1/8 npt) but with a lower pressure setting. I haven't hooked it up yet, have to make a pigtail for the wire.
