    Pod Choice - 1979 GS 550

I know this subject has been run into the ground but I could not find any information searching. I have a 1979 GS 550 L that after lots of reading and thinking about I want to put K&N pods on it. A year or two ago I tried putting EMGO pods on it but they were too large and made contact with the frame. They were 3.5 inches long. The K&N pods that are recommended for my bike are model RC-2314 and are 3 inches long and of a similar shape. I don't think that by being an 0.5 inches shorter they are not going to contact the frame. Another K&N airfilter they have for sale is the RC-0884. This filter is only 2.25 inches long. so space would not be an issue at all. These filters are not tapered cones instead they are cylinders. My question about this filter is would the 2 and 3 carb be getting enough air? With the tapered design it seems like more air would be allowed in compared to the straight cylinder design.

    Bike with EMGO pods:

Even the shorter ones should flow more air than your bike will ever need.

      Thanks for the response.

Makes sense that it will be getting plenty of air I guess.

If anyone is looking for any pods Ken's Auto Wholesale seems to have pretty decent prices and free shipping. I don't know how quick they are at shipping, but I'll soon find out.

Please let us know how well they fit. I am curious to see how this ends up.
