lower bars for 1978 GS1000
I recently bought a used 1978 GS1000 and want to install lower superbike style bars on it. Does anyone know the correct part numbers to use for the shorter cables? does anyone know if the GS1000S cables will work or are the ends different because of the carbs? Thank you.Tags: None

I never changed the cables when I put Superbike bars on my 1978 GS 750, and never had a problem. The GS 1000 is pretty similar in most respects, so I'd think you'd be ok with the originals. Lube the cables while you have everything apart, and be careful of losing the contact in the starter switch.1979 GS 1000

S model Clutch cable will work - you can use existing throttle cables no probs. S is different I think. Actually I have all stock cables on one of mine, just changed the routing a little - works ok.

I'm using stock length cables on my 78 GS1000. It has drag bars with 1" risers. They loop a little bit but it isn't horrible or especially noticeable. That said, I'll probably use "S" cables when I replace the ones I have now.
