Who's familiar with "Pro Sport" exhausts?

I just bought an 1100EX with an extremely rusted "PRO SPORT" 4-1 exhaust on it and I'm not familar with this brand... Is it worth blasting & painting (or similar), or is this a cheap aftermarket 4-1 exhaust??

    Thanks,

    Mike

They were made by Vance & Hines as an economy replacement for stock pipes & required no jetting changes when bolted on in place of stock pipes. Ray.

I had one I bought off someone here. I kept the header and repainted it becuase its almost the same as a V&H. The muffler I cut off and tossed than welded on a yoshimura can off something else.

Thanks Ray, that's the kind of insight I was hoping for.

This one is extremely rusted (no holes or thin spots far as I can tell), is it worth my time & effort to sand blast it & black rattlecan it with some paint made for exhausts? I assume it has baffles if no re-jetting is needed.

        Thanks,

What kind of paint did you use?

Any of the HIGH heat VHT header paints will work. You can usually find it at an automotive speed shop. Ray.

I haven't a clue what VHT & PJ1 stand for, but I now know to look for them .

So to recap, stock airbox with a K&N drop-in AND this Pro-Sport 4-1 exhaust and I don't have to rejet... stock jets all the way is what I'm reading here.

                Thanks

                  With a regular V&H & a K&N inbox I went up from a 115 to 125 on my 1000G.

Personally I would go up at least one step (5) for the K&N even if the pipe doesn't need anything.

I'd also go up a bit on the needle (get some washers from Radioshack & replace the plastic washer with a stack of washers just a touch shorter, say 2 washer worth) & then take the pilot screws out half a turn to a turn.

I might of used duplicolor, it was a few years ago. I recommend the vht, it works good.

Salty, did you use the ceramic VHT Flameproof or the previous generation stuff? I'm liking the results with Flameproof so far....

Yep, that's the one.... So far I'm on the second lot of VHT in about a year, tends to need re-doing at every oil change due to chips or whatever.

So far the PJ1 doesn't seem to chip as easy but I'll know more when I do the full thing at some stage...

Ive had considerable problems getting different types of "High Temp" paints to stick to the headers, mostly right at the bends where it gets super hot. It looks good for a couple weeks, and then starts flaking. Ive used just about everything I could try. VHT, Duplicolour, Rustoleum Ultra High Temp (3000*) but it still peels.. Im thinking about trying one of these Tech Line at home ceramicoating kits over the winter,,,see how it does..

Not had peeling probs myself.. How's your prep work? I always wipe the pipes down with alcohol before applying the paint.

Cycle Gear has the PJ1 stuff

                              IMO PJ1 stuff is best.
