    Recomended road racing tires?

I'm not ready for track day, however what are the proper tires for road racing categories: stock, rain and full race?
I don't even know the rules regarding tires, are treaded tires required in some classes?
    Thanks!
    Bill

You'd have to check with your sanctioning body about what tires are allowed

What bike would they be for?
    1978 GS 1000 (since new)
1979 GS 1000 (The Fridge, superbike replica project)
    1978 GS 1000 (parts)
    1981 GS 850 (anyone want a project?)
    1981 GPZ 550 (backroad screamer)

Assuming it's DOT tires for a vintage bike, you'll find most are using Avon RoadRiders or Pirelli Sport Demons. Look at the photos from the vintage races and shows.

They're the absolute stickiest tires available in vintage sizes. Both are very modern v-rated designs that work fantastically in the wet or dry.

They do handle differently, though -- the Avon RoadRiders have a somewhat pointier profile that I prefer because it lightens steering significantly. This is a good thing on a porky old shaftie. The Avons are also about a third cheaper and last longer. Others prefer the Pirellis. Try both.

I have avon's and love them. They handle similar to my sticky crotch rocket tires.
