At least if the GS "borrows" some parts for awhile I could always return them to the bike.

Yea the 1st gen GSXR'ers are a rare gem but the people that want them ususally dont have any money . If they are perfect then there is a collector somewhere but otherwise and unfortunately not a whole lot of demand.

Your right Posplayr.
The guy I bought the bike from said I just caught it in time as he was going to keep the bike because of all the crazy low ball offers he was getting. He had guys come look at the bike, hear it run and still offer him an insulting amount for it.
Cheers

Some people think the slabside plastic, is awkward looking and other have swapped out the tail sections in an attempt to remove the large plastic areas. Purest would never dream of that. I have chosen to retain the style, but trim down the full length of the skirts for my street fighter.Last edited by posplayr; 10-15-2009, 02:28 PM.

I'm all for a project bike but it seems a shame to chop one up that nice.... My project was a barely running dented tanked slack suspension piece of crap & the added parts were bought already parted.
You can easily get the parts you need without chopping that one up.... I know from experience that all that first gen stuff is out there for sale. Forks & triples are about $70 - $100. The 17" wheels are easier to find than the 18" & would work just as well, I have a set, Pos has a set - or just leave that GSXR alone & put the USD setup on the GS... Using the stock swinger parts are less than $400.
Don't kid yourself that you can put it back - you'll need to mess with the triples etc to get it to work.

I think they're beautiful! Different from everything else. Saw a nice blue/white stock one at a local coffee shop this summer, I nearly fell over from excitement!

As most of you know i really dont do standard bikes so this may surprise some of you
DONT YOU DARE HACK UP THAT SLABBY pauly !
it would be a criminal shame there's not that many around in that condition now as most have been crashed bashed or bodged into oblivion
Yes i'm responsible for my fair share but even i wouldnt mess with that one apart from finding a nice stock exhaust for it & running in on sunny days
s**t i'm turning into an belstaff wearing rivet counter

While i think
jim nailed it, the slabby name came from the "slabside" rear seat panels, nothing suzuki ever thought of just a quick & easy way of explaining the differance between the g,h,j models & the later K onwards "slingshot" models
& i'm giving no more info on this thread if it relates to destroying a perfectly good, classic, mold breaking gsxr1100
