How much weight can you realistically drop?

Wow. I'm looking at specs here that say the 1100 is 571lbs and the 750 is not much lighter. So, a cb 750, a much ballyhooed cafe platform, is 517 lbs. If you can strip the kind of weight off of one of the big suckers you are talking about, at least into the 400lbs range, that sounds like something that is pure balls and can be pretty easily tugged back and forth in the twisties.

I'm liking the idea of a big cc cafe more and more. I found a running 1000g last year for $500... time to keep my eyes peeled again. -nick

What specs are you looking at that says the 1100 is 571? Is that wet or dry? E or G? I can believe the G being that much. More likely the GK but the E is not that heavy. To be honest it feels nearly as light as my 750.

I cut about 80lbs off my Cafe 750. It was down to about 400 even. DEFINITELY noticeable... A 1000 motor is lighter than a 750 motor. Id guess an 1100 motor would be a little heavier, but not by much..

400 even? You sure about that Josh? The GS750 was in the 540 lb range so taking off 80 lbs would put you at 460. Did you ever weigh the bike?

Well the manual says dry weight of the 77 750 is 480lbs. So I was going off that. Never weighed the bike (how would you? ) but I did weigh the parts I took off to keep track. I was shooting for around 70ish for fear it would make the bike a lil too light and ill handling but that was close enough. Maybe my manual has another typo?

about 15 years ago i put this bike in it's same form on the local highway transport scales with a full tank of gas and it weighed 485lbs so weight can be shed from these bikes when i saw the numbers i thought they were pretty good and never thought about it again

Dry weight in the factory manual states 492 lbs, which means with oil, electrolyte, and an empty gas tank the bike will easily be over 500 lbs (which to me is the "real" weight. Removing 80 lbs from that thing is an amazing feat. Good work indeed.

so many guys carve every ounce off there bikes and stand around it bragging while wolfing down a double cheese burger... I know, I am one. ahahahahah

Loosing the 630 chain can drop 8 lbs. A gsxr conversion can drop another 25 lbs, and yet another 20 lbs with 4-1 pipe (depending on the pipe)

going to a small new battery can drop some too.... lots of ways to shed the bulk.

differ from what? IF you add a bandit arm you add a couple pounds but gain in strength.
