I run a Gardner crank and use a PMFR outboard bearing support as extra insurance. The support is spendy at $265, but a lot cheaper than a crank and cases

Madjack; Do you have a PMFR part # ? The only one I could find there was for a remote starter.

I'm guessing the remote start is the one he's talking about. I don't see anything for self starting.

No one I know of makes a 3" offset motor plate to use with a stock starter. Greig Frankheim I think is the name of a guy in Australia that makes a cutout plate to clear all the starter clutch stuff but I don't think he puts a bearing support back in it. I could be wrong. Do a search for him on Dragbike.com. Ray.

I just shot Greg at MPE an email thru their contact page. See what I get back.

It's the remote starter plate that I have. Tried to set up a on board starter but no luck

For the non self start guys, we made these outboard bearing starter plates that all but eliminated the broken crank ends.

Jay, more & more of us are going back to self starting & need you to figure out how to support the crank end WITH a starter clutch assembly in there. Ray.

I'd second that! The off board starter is a PITA when everthing could be built so it's on board

Do it quick. I'm about to make my own using a stock cover. The plan is to tie everything together.

not me I'm going back to external start. I have done this both ways and learned my lesson.

                              #1 less racing weight
                              #2 less to malfunction
#3 less stress on bike's tiny total loss electrical system
#4 other external starters are instantly compatible to start bike in a pinch
#5 less stress on big starter and BIG batteries and therfore longer life

in the very first year of having my first on board starter it malfunctioned and I was out all the entry fees at a 2 wheel speed event. Having a slider clutch meant no pop starting. Now if I had a out board starter nut I could have used some one elses starter to keep racing that day. I can honestly say," My big outboard starter has NEVER FAILED NEVER let me down in multiple years and helped many other racers that needed last second assistance at the water box/starting line".

however, your work on that plate does look very good.

                                Counterpoint

I have never had a onboard starter fail, however I always have run a charging system.

I have mostly raced classes where it is required to self start.
