    FET Regulator Questions

I'm running the FH012 on the 750 off of a Concourse.

The voltage is really stable at all revs with about 12.5v at idle moving up to about 12.8v at revs. If I add more load (ie. switch on the heated grips for an added 30 watts of load) I get a drop of around .2 to .3v.

Given that it's stable does this point to a weak stator. It was overcharging previously before I got it as the RR was shot so maybe that killed the stator.

I will pull it out & do some analysis on it soon but just wondering if collective opinion says I should look for a good deal on a stator or whether I should start looking for a new RR....

The bike is wired - stator direct into RR, Live feed from RR split to wiring loom stock connection plus through fuse to battery.

Ground is wired into stock look & split direct to battery.

My only other thought is maybe one of the stator connections has come off when I moved it into place (they are spades with silicon encasing them) & it's charging off of 2 stator legs only...

When I left for my ride today I took voltage at battery of 12.41v. I took it again when I returned after about 1.5hrs (I stopped & started once in this time after original start to get gas, not running the heated grips) & it was up to 12.46v so it's obviously at least maintaining some kind of charge.

    How come ?

If the running voltage is not above 14VDC at 2K RPM sumtin aint right.

I would guess bad connections. Check the voltage diff between R/R and battery as outlined in stator pages

If your voltage is that low, then and with the efficency of the FET R/R you could burn up your stator if run for any length of time.

OK, thanks for the warning. I guess I'll make that sooner rather than later then!

Well turns out it was one dead leg on the stator. The fet RR was managing to make 12.4-12.8v out of 2 legs.

Luckily Nessism was helping me today we did a carb sync then pulled the charging system apart. He had a spare RM stator that fit so now have a super strong system. 14v at idle and the 30watts of heated grips only drop it about .2v.

The other bonus today... I got to ride Ed's 1000S! Nice bike, runs great!
