    1150 exhaust upgrade

I would like to know if this header pipe off a 06 hayabusa will match the ports on my 1985 GS1150? Any members know?

    'nother pic

Nix the muffler and mid pipe in the pic, won't be using them. I just want to loose the extra weight of the original exhaust. I want to put this header(modified of course) fitted with 'busa mid pipes and mufflers on my classic muscle. What about the flow characteristics? Would the 'busa exhaust be as restrictive as the original? I want to use the original air filter box with a K&N filter. I'm not looking for an increas in HP, just a decrease in weight. Since performance is a combination of weight vs HP, I should see an increase in performance. I hate messing with the jetting, but I feel it will be worth it to loose the extra pounds. Any guesses on the difference in weight? With this setup I think I can retain the center stand. I won't be loosing it unless I can make up my own that will be as strong and loose some weight.

There are people over at gixxer.com oiler section that have put GSXR 1000 header pipes on 1st Gen bikes and looked pretty good. We never got an answer on the specific changes required but think separating the tube spacing will be required.

That particular muzzy look like a nice pipe if you can get it to fit. The 4:2:1 improves the midrange power over a 4:1. Please buy it and report back.

The problem with the pipe might be it is too long and will hang down low. Most modern bike motors are taller. I'm doing something similar with a set of 2nd generation Micro headers.

If all you care about is weight check into the stock GSXR 1000 pipes. They are titanium and under $100 typically.

      Bought a complete exhaust

      off a 2006 hayabusa. Here's pics:

      and:

gonna try the header from the busa to see if it matches, then decide if I'm buyin' the SS Muzzy. I'll use the mid-pipes and mufflers mated with the Muzzy.

There is another member here that used a 2nd Generation GSXR 1100 stock exhaust on his 1150. There were some on ebay virtually NOS for about $300 a while back.

          • This is a 2nd gen GSXR 1100 (89-92) right?
          • Header,Pipe and cans are all Stainless Steel?
          • Any issues with frame clerance?
          • Did you have to modify the rear hangers?
          • You have to remove the pipe to change oil and filter?
          • Only modification was slotting the flanges?
          • Using stock SG1150 gaskets?
          • What is the down pipe OD?
          • Did you notice any improvement in mid range power with the 4:2:1:2 design?
          • I have a 4:2:1 Yoshi from 2nd Gen and it really seems to have perked up the mid range on my 1166.
          TIA Jim

the exaust came from a 92 gsxr1100n, all stainless and no frame clearance issues the only mods to the rear hangers is i had to make some spacers . it is possible to change filters without removing the pipe, but just. besides doing the flanges you have to make a small dent for the rear brake lever but it is hard to see with the brake lever hiding most of the dent.it took the stock gaskets . the pipe size is about 1.25 in
power wise it is hard to tell it seems a bit stronger .
hope this helps. the pipe is quite quiet and the stainless is easy to keep clean , it also looks good and the center stand is not going to fit .
good luck and let me know how it works for you.......toolman
