Just figured out that these cams are identical to those from my first S engine... http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...d.php?t=135571
Never did figure out who made them but I think they are fine for shim over bucket since the lift seems to be under the threashhold.
Regarding these parts, a number of people have shot me PM's with trade offers but I'm a little overwhelmed right now. I'm interested in doing a trade but please understand that I'm restoring this 1000S so I'd like to find the right parts for this bike plus untimately these parts should be worth more than stock parts so I'd like to gather a little cash in addition to a trade.
What I'm willing to trade for is:
- Large port CV carb type head. The head I already have is in good shape so I'll just reuse it unless anyone has a low mileage (20k miles or less) CV type head they can offer plus some cash. Sorry, I know this sounds selfish but I can't see any good reason to install a VM carb head or one that's in worse condition than this one.
- Stock bore cylinder w/pistons - cylinder should have the extra bolt on the front (the '78 1000 cylinders don't have this and I'm not sure about '79 either). Again, looking for something with less than 20k miles that's in good condition - no broken fins or anything.
Again, please forgive for this selfish attitude, but hope you guys understand. As an aside, how much do you guys think this cylinder and pistons are worth? They look to be in good condition with no evidence of blow by on the piston skirts.Ed

Russr33 and I have made a deal for the head and cams, they should make a nice addition to his own S. In return I get a low mileage stock head which is perfect for my needs.
Cleaned up the cylinder and pistons only to notice one of the cylinder sleeves has a deep score line running vertically. Need to double check the pistons now but didn't notice anything wrong when cleaning them up.
Can anyone help me put a value on this damged big bore kit? The pistons are killer expensive - APE sells them for $679 + sleeves + boring, but obviously having a bad sleeve is very bad for resale value.Last edited by Nessism; 02-25-2010, 01:54 PM.Ed

Photos of the head after some clean up... Intake ports have been fully ported to blend the larger valves. Next step is lap the valves and assemble with new seals, then ship it off to Russ.

Drats!
I would have happily sent you my original '79 GS1000S head.
I guess you never got the PM or the online response.
