New dude here, need help with 1100L

Pretty new to the forum here, so hello to everyone. This site is great! I have an '82 1100L that is stock motorwise and I need a new air filter. My foam UNI filter is now trash and was thinking about APE pods and a decent 4-1. Question is should I just stick with the airbox and upgrade the exhaust? What do you guys recommend for filters, exhaust, jetting on a street bike? Has anyone tried the Mac exhaust I see on ebay? Let me know what you guys are running....

Second question...my cam chain is pretty noisey. Will the APE manual tensioner take care of that? and is it straight forward to install?

The APE pods don't really filter go with K&N. You will need a jet kit to run pods.
The APE cam chain tensioner is a good step up from the stock tensioner but the noisy cam chain may be from a stretched chain or bad guides.
I'd see if you can find a Vance and Hines street pipe.

The Dynojet kit will have the jets for the mod.
See Posplayr for a V&H pipe. He has a BNIB.

ok .... im needing persional experiance information ... i have pretty much the same bike 80 1100L i have the carbs off for rebuilding and am thinking of puting pods on the bike so it will be easer to work on the bike (more room ) my questoin is in your experiance if i change nothing else (as im not looking for more power here) not the exhaust or any thing .... will i have to do much more than shim the needle (not shure whare the restrictions are in the airflow of this bike) .....

just want to see if it will be worth the mod as i dont want to have to buy a jet kit and retune the engine ...... i dont race the bike and it has all the power i need for now .... just want some more room to work on things..... also i ride in the rain and i am consernd as to the negitave side effects that could have on an exposed filter like the pods.......

sk, if you ride in a lot of rain, the pods may not be for you.
If your legs do not cover them well enough or you have a lot of stop and go riding, the water will plug the filters and allow too much water into the carbs.
With that said, I have been running pod filters for more than 29 years with no problems.
