Ok, I looked through a bunch of threads, and couldn't find anything, don't know if it's been asked before, so I'll just throw it out there. I recently went through and redid my 82 GS1100g. the only thing left to do is the exhaust. I really don't want to do the 4-1 exhause, because I really like the look of the 2. I just wish they were shorter. I've been toying with the idea of cutting the factory exhaust down a few inches, has anyone else tried this, or does anyone else have any other suggestionsTags: None

Maybe if you tried to find an "L" model exhaust for the same year, that might work, they were shorter from the factory. I definately wouldn't cut the exhaust, once you do, there's no going back.

If you have some wild need to make more noise with your bike I suggest looking for some stock head pipes with rusted mufflers and then have some aftermarket mufflers welded on in place - followed by repainting the whole system. This way you can have 4-2 without destroying a nice factory system (which is a thing of beauty in my opinion).Ed

The only problem with that is about 5inches of the end of the pipe on the right side is crushed, and rusted, so there is no saving it, thats why I was gonna cut them down and weld new caps on them

There was a guy that used to post here that had a set of these on his bike, it was 1000G IIRC. They were grafted to the stock exhaust.
They sounded sweet with a deep purr to them. I think I've seen some that were a little shorter but were still Dunstall knock-offs.

i did the same as venus, put harley mufflers on my gs 850. cut off at collector opened the hd inlet up a lil bit. welded inplace. looked good and sounded good. i have since put on straight pipes. the whole project is pretty simple if you have a welder know how and some time. there is no real need to rejet with hd mufflers mine ran a little lean but nothing to bad. could get pics if you want. i still have the hd pipes if you want them.
