    VM33 or CR33??????? or RS34?

    hi,
I'm building a GS1000 project.I have two different carbs set that i can put on the bike. One set is Mikuni VM33 and the other is Keihin CR33.
The VM set is intended for use on GS1000-1100, the kit is VM33A14 on sudco website.
The CR set is not set for a Suzuki but everything is ajustable(spacing, spigot, linkage etc.).
    Both are in good condition.
Which set is better or easier to get parts?
the engine will be a GS1000 with 1100 wiseco kit, ported head,
    40/33mm oversize valves + s7,s4 camshafts.
Should i sell these carbs sets and get new RS34-36?

    Thank you
    Marc

I don't think the CRS 33 Kehins are going to be big enough to feed your motor. For a stock GS1000, Kehin lists the CRS 35s.And looking at you list of mods, you would probably need at least 37s.
The Mikuni VM33s wold probably do the job, but they are a pain to get set up.
Go with the Mikuni RS flatsides if you can afford it. And I've heard the Kehin FCRs are even better, but I have never tried them on anything, yet.
I have a set of FCR 39s that are going on my next project. 1400cc Katana!

      Not had a lot of experience with the VM's. Parts are plentiful for the CR's and not at ridiculous prices. I have a few sets on various bikes - the only set I have on a GS is a set of CR33's on a stock GS1000SZ (Katana) with a 4-1. They run very well on this setup; smooth and tractable;

I have a set of FCR37's on a CB900F and they are a big improvement over the CR's. More precise metering and an accelerator pump. The trade off is that none of the FCR series come with a choke whereas the CR's all have a pretty effective enrichment circuit for cold startups.

        Sudco's catalog shows CR31's, CR33's and CR35's for the GS1000 and CR33's, CR37's and CR39's for the GS1100.

CR size depends a lot on the intended use of the bike. Where more than one size is listed for a given model, the lower sizes will generally give better low end response with the trade-off being a reduction in top end power. CR's have no accelerator pump so the larger the size the more 'rolling-on' of the thottle will be required.

I've always found Sudco to be pretty helpful and realistic with their recommendations - they should be able to suggest a suitable combo if you tell them the bike along with any modifications.

Cant help with the carb issue but was wondering about the shield on your KAT..is that for airflow because of the fairings...or does that serve as an insulater for heat from the motor?...Just curious.

It's a heat shield. The cooler the mixture the more dense it is and will make more power. I have a Yosh heat shield out in the garage.

My old T305 had the phenolic spacers too between the cylinders and carbs. The extra intake length usually helps topend as well.

i have VM33's on my gs 1100 and i love them. they a little hard to just crank the throttle wide open all at once. you are better off to just roll them on gently if you hit them too hard the bike will nose dive and then when the motor catches up with the massive amount of fuel you just dumped in it you better hold on. 130 mains, i cant remember what pilots. i have ordered many parts from sudco they are an excellent company to deal with. i also have pod filters and a full yosh system.

I like the look of the VM but the RS seem the way to go, 750$ new + shipping.
I will try to find a used set, if i cannot find one, i will sell my 2 set of carb to help the projet.
All i need is a manual camchain tensioner + welded crank + heavy duty clutch + heavy duty valve springs.
I already have the other go fast goodies.
i've been collecting parts for a while for this bike
Thank you all for your reply,
                      open to trade + cash

Will the RS36 be too big?
I saw a set for sale at a good price.
