    I am trying to put a 1000 8v into a 80 750L

I am putting a 1000 8v into a 80 750L and I dont think I will have that much trouble bolting the motor in but what carbs to use, I was looking at old threads and I have seen 1000's with both styles of carbs so is there different intake boots? What year for what carbs? how do I tell what year motor I have?

Yes, and different heads too. The intake ports are shaped differently and bigger to fit the CV carbs. Use the carbs that fit the head on the engine. In the US 1980 and later had CV carbs, 1979 and earlier had VMs.
