    replacing the cdi box

    i am in the process of replacing alot of parts on my bike. and came across the cdi box. it's pretty rusty and wanted to replace it. but i had a few questions. what does the cdi box actually do? and if i could replace is there an upgrade? thanks for replies in advance.

    Dyna S and coil mod relay would be the easiest choice.

      If it works don't replace it.
      1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.
      1985 GS1150ES stock with 85 Red E bodywork.

          Unless you're doing some serious motor mods, there is NO reason to replace your CDI. Its just wasting money. If it LOOKS crusty, or nasty, clean it up and paint it. Replacing it is AT LEAST a $150 or more endevour, and in this case, money thrown away. You could just send that cash to ME!!

            I have an extra Dyna S if it's too ugly to run.
