    GS1100gk engine info.

Apart from the top half of the GK engine what else fits a GS1000st engine. Just seeing if the crank/alt is a straight swap. The engine covers look the same at a quick glance. And if i have to widen the cases where the barrels goes so be it. And please dont say the cases wont fit as that will make you look stupid. Thanks.

Last I looked, crank, clutch basket, and assorted goodies are not compatable..

Stator and ignition covers fit. Top end, but not sure if the cylinder slides down unobstructed into the cases. Most likely the oil pump but as Josh said, most bottom end pieces are different.

You already know that the GS1000GT/GX top end is a straight swap? Identical cylinder blocks. Does your ST have the big VM-type carbs? The GS1000G uses BS34 carbs of course.

Apart from that, there's not much else. GS750/850 are similar dimensions, and can be made to fit, but I'm guessing that you don't want the top ends from those shorter stroke motors.

Are you considering a "stroked" GS1000 motor by swapping in the GS1100GK crank and top end? If so, this could be possible (and an interesting project).

Cylinder bore centre spacings appear the same between the two bikes so the two cranks could be identical length (just different webs for the longer stroke of the GS1100). There's only 2mm difference in the bores, so I would think there's very little machining of the crankcases to be done.
