    High Mileage "Built" GS Engine

    How many people have seen a Built GS,NoN big bore(Meaning cases punched)go the distance?2vor4v,I put almost 2000 pretty hard miles on my 1229 In less than 2 months,not a lot of mileage but enough to check the valves a few times there to spec never changed a bit,bike runs like a top with the oil cooler mods I been in 100 deg heat and seen temps of 170 maybe 190 in BAD traffic freinds CBR929 next to me got well over 200 deg.Looking forward to putting some real miles on this bike in the near future.Any input would be great.

    Really should not have any problems if it was assembled and jetted correctly

      Years ago we had a customer do one of our 1260 engine kits with 370 cams. He then rode it from Calif. to New Orleans and back.

          My theory is that miles don't hurt much. After all, if it takes 30 horsepower to cruise at 70, then 30 is all the bike makes cruising at 70. big cams and heavier valve springs will place more load on cams, rockers, etc. all the time, however.

            Inputs, okay.

            But what were you expecting, for it to run hotter?

            If your temp guage is correct, 170°F to 190°F could be due to the jetting/needle position being a little rich, guage location, or the oil cooler being efficient.

            I have always read that the temp needs to reach around 212°F to burn off any condensation in the crank case though. Usually more so in cold humid weather. 220°F is a common rational number for oil temp normally on a street engine.

            If the guage is correct, and the plugs look good I would not sweat it.

            But, if it is running rich/spark plugs look dark causing the temp to be lower than expected you also might be missing out on some power. Lean it a tad, and the temp will come up likewise. Fuel mileage will increase for the better as well.

            At WOT, I would make sure the spark plugs are a good color.

            From what you describe you ain't going hurt it with the temps being between 170° to 190°F.
