Dual Carbs
Ive got a '79 GS750E that I'm gonna make a hardtail 40 over springer out of. I want to simplify the carbon setup and still have performance. Thinking of 2 Mikuni TM33 style carbs and custom made 2 into 1 manifolds. Before I reinvent the wheel, does anybody have any recommendations? Gonna run Webb cams and mill the heads to increase compression with custom exhaust. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Tags: None

What's a "carbon setup"?

do what you want but i wouldn't waste any money on cams and milling the head then go backwards on the intake system.
leave the internals stock and find a harley CV carb take off for around 50 bucks and fab a manifold to your intake spigots for the single carb.
this would be simple and different...
lower performance yes but then again its only a 70's 750cc to start with.

re
The IR, or individual runner adds lots of power, and allows these engines to achieve almost unheard of volumetric efficiency. And volumetric efficiency is power, lots of power. Once you take away the IR setup you break a big part of the high horsepower magic, and the power drops way off. 4 carbs isnt that bad to deal with once you come up to speed on syncing, and cleaning them.

By the time he gets them on the bike, yeah, the one with the hardtail and the 40-over springer, he might be glad that he's down a few ponies.

I think you have something there. Ponies can mame and kill, especially on a hardtail 40 over springer. With that in mind how about one side draft SU carb off of an MG and it is done.

If you're going to simplify things, don't run duals. Go get a 42mm carburetor from a Polaris Predator and run a single.

I would use a system similar to what Cycle-X offers....VM 34s...these have a good reputation with the Honda chopper crowd (to which I belong ) and they look pretty cool too...manifolds would be an issue, but if you can fabricate, some steel tubing and a welder should get you what you need.

That's sorta the idea I had. I called CycleX last week n they don't make anything that would match the Suzuki intake spacing. If I go that rout it would be with that style Carb with an accelerator pump. As for no power 750, with a dual setup it should put out about 75ish HP at the tire. On a low 400 pound bike that is more than enough.
