anyone ever see a dragbike without rear brakes? would that even pass inspection

Not according to any rulebooks I have! I sure wouldn't run without one or pass a bike without one if I were a tech official. Ray. Ray. -
Very common here in the southeast on "grudge" bikes. They make it through tech. IHRA tracks are looser with safety rules than NHRAComment

no real drag strip track with a proper insurance policy to have and protect would pass a vehicle to compete that does not have a brake per axle.. (assuming you are faster than 120mph and 9.99 sec you'll have to show a license and have leathers too)
I have seen 1 braked bikes get trailered and hear the rider cuss for hours after in the pits. Even with a current registration.
Me, I have not been to every track in America but I have been to more than 1. some tech process is visual look over- after they know you. If you are a stranger- some check both brake resistence/operation, throttle return snap, chain guard, 2" ground clearance,kill switch,Snell date in helmet, glove seams, leather jacket seams, etc..
BUT if there are tiny places that circumvent common sense to get racers in the gate, it is ok with me I am not the fun police.. but I have never seen it IHRA or NHRA proper tracks...
however..
there is a little place in conesville IOWA that a biker gang built a eigth mile track on to party around/ bet on. You can race naked if you like. I bet they don't care if you have brakes at all - there is a corn field at the end ! And as long as your are on a harley you do what ever you want out there.SUZUKI , There is no substituteComment

Dragsters only have brakes on 1 axle.
I moved south from NY a few years back. Englishtown was my home track, very strict on licensing and safety regs. It is a lot different down here, and i am not talking about ****hole tracks.Comment

Personally I run a rear brake, but I cannot remember the last time I used it other than dragging it to clean the rust off the rear rotor. A single disk PM brake was all I ever needed slowing from 180. Hell, at Atco I could shut the throttle, coast and make the last turn off.Comment

At that Conesville track the announcer constantly berates anything but a v-twin with the foulest of language. Not a pleasant place for anyone on a non v-twin bike. his "name" is F%#! Man and he has a little celebrity status around there. I had a big motor buell and I raced the track before they lengthened it. 1/8 mile and barely any shut down length until you are in corn, I mean on the brakes at the line for real! If you can get over 90MPH you had a problem. The return road is a silty dirt path with drunk biker groupies everywhere stirring up dust. Never had tech there and the only thing protecting the spectators is a flimsy snow fence. They have a crossing gate out about 330' and some times people - or dogs get on the track when riders are coming down track at full honk. open closed no one keeps track.

A lot of 225+mph Busas dont run front brakes at Bonneville but stopping isnt a poblem there. The fronts do most of the stopping anyway but would I do it ......NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !Comment

yea i've been in the drag racing scene for a bit now and I'm putting together a gs1000 on a real deal chasis and was just curious about rear brakes. I never ever ever have used rear brakes and i could coast to where I need to turn. I will be racing at cecil county dragway and 7580 maybe. Both in maryland. I feel that if the front brakes aren't in good enough condition to trust them, than I probably shouldn't be riding the bike and should be working on it instead. Thanks for all the info everyone.

Rear brakes are good for taking out ET at the stripe in bracket racing. You never want to try that with front brakes.Comment
