Removed slide springs at the 1/8 mile drags

Tonight I ran a best ET of 7.49 with a 60FT of 1.79. I then removed all four of the carb slide springs and ran a best ET of 7.48 and a 60FT of 1.74. I don't know if it made an improvement or not, just thought I would try it and see what happens. Also gave some GSXR 1000 boys a run for their money up to the 330FT mark. After I past it, that was the only time I could see them as they finally pulled away from me. I can't wait untill next spring when I install the 1166, 13-1 kit then it might just be a race to the end of the 1/8 mile. I should drop about .5 seconds in the 1/8 mile.

13-1's means your getting serious about racing. What other mods you plan on making?

Looking at a Nitrous kit, 5 inch slick and wheelie bars by 2004 summer.

13-1's and a nitrous kit? Any other mods to the engine - like porting, bigger valves, indexed and welded crank, new cams and springs, oversized studs, external oil feed, h-d clutch basket, stator removal, etc.?

          13-1

Well keep some extra bolts with you for when you start shearing the starter gear bolts. Stick with the 10.5:1 and spray that puppy. Or you could stick a GSXR head on it (oilcooled). A stock GSXR head flows as well if not better than a ported GS head. They are cheap to get and with a 1168cc piston kit you should see some 6.50's in the 1/8th. or you could do like me and run the 1428cc piston kit.

Never thought of using a GSXR oilcooled head. What year of head should I be looking for??. As for the 1166 kit I like the ideal of just boring the cylinders r/r pistions and slap the head back on.

              GSXR head.

Look for a 88-90 750 or 1100 head. They still have the screw type adjusters. A Bandit 1200 head is the same. 96-03 91-92 GSXR heads have shim type adjustment and is not the hot setup. You have to use the GSXR cams with the GS sprockets. I can tell you the rest of the stuff if you need it.

                  The rest of the story

You will also have to run a top end oiler and stop up the drain holes and oil feed holes on the GSXR head. You also do not run the GSXR idler gear. The motor will look like a GS1150 engine to others but the GSXR head flows much better. It will boost the power output up. If you were to run a lockup clutch with soft springs on your current setup you would drops some more time off that slip. The lockup with the softer springs gives you more control over the clutch but then once underway it keeps the clutch from slipping at high RPM. But you can only shift without the clutch at high RPM. the lockup applies too much pressure to the plates for you to use the clutch lever.
