degreeing the cams, part sourcing q's

Hey guys,

I am trying to track down where I would find a set of sprockets for degreeing the Megacycle cams I have for my engine.

The guy at my local stealer says that "all Suzukis are the same cam sprocket size....blah blah blah". truth or fiction?

All Suzukis do NOT use the same size sprockets!!! Go back to whoever told you that & tell him to get educated before he gives any more UNEDUCATED guesses!!! Which bike do you have? I may already have slotted sprockets for it in stock. Ray.

Slot the sprockets your self. I used a 7/32 chainsaw file and just kept checking for fit. I did have to try them a couple time to get the slot long enough.

Wow, $60 a pair for brand new slotted sprockets. That is a great price. How much are yours, Ray? I had to slot my own for the GPz.

Are you asking how long the slots need to be?

Jay, do yours have the OEM timing marks on them also? If not, how does the end user get the timing WRT the crank and each other?

well yes that would be the point. Once I put them cams in and torque the caps I dont want them coming out again.

O.K., I just wanted to make sure I understood your question first. It really depends on why you need to slot the sprockets in the first place. On my GPz, I had the head milled 0.020 to further raise the compression with my Wiseco piston kit. This altered the deck height, plus chain stretch is a factor, so I needed to degree them. The set I finally ended up using I took to a supposedly experienced motorcycle machine shop and they made the slots about 30 degrees wide (a swag, but fairly close w/o removing the valve cover and getting out the protractor). I ended up using less than 10 degrees of the slot from stock (again a swag, since the slotting removed all traces of the original markings).
And be sure and loctite the sprocket bolts (I'm sure you know that already, just thought I would mention it).
