    82/83 1100E Fork Info

Picked these forks up with new forking by frank sliders & recently finished legs, triples, bearings, seals, sliders etc.

Plan to either slide in "as is" to my existing Skunk triples or maybe replace the whole lot incl triples if they are a direct swap. Other option is to use just the new sliders in my Skunk legs (although don't know if directly compatible at the moment.

Can anyone tell me if the oil height on these is still 140mm from the top?

Can anyone tell me how the damping & pre-load works? Presume the preload is similar to the GSXR, stick screwdriver in, push & twist to put it on the next level of the "ramp".
Does the damping adjustment work well or does it simply always get set to "4" & left or something. I am thinking of putting a cartridge emulator in instead.

Does anyone have one of the plastic adjusters for the damping.... I was told they are no longer available but haven't checked myself as yet.

What happens if I remove the "air" assembly on these forks? Does it leave a hole? I'm assuming it probably does.

Yes on the air holes but I always weld them up & do away with the cross over. Ray.

Yep, you presume correct. You can tell what "notch" youre in by the height of the slotted screw. Set them all the way down to screw them in.

How much was that set-up? Id like to have frank "do" my forks.

Edit: Freshly drained / cleaned forks take a little more than a cup of oil. 8.5oz.

The guy reckons he had over $400 in them incl labour.... I picked them up for less than half that. Forking by Frank sliders alone are $200 so I reckon I did pretty good

You can down load the manual from Cliff
          Fork oil level is 195mm
I've never used the damper; used cartidge emulators which eliminates all that.
          preload is as described
I dont use air so no bother if it leaks.

Anyone want to comment on the stock damping... Not sure if I want to pull these apart to add cartridge emulators or not....

Anyone know if the triples are compatible with the skunk frame, ignition, gauges etc?

              Hey Dan,

Those fork tubes should be a direct swap into your triples, which would be a much easier swap that transferring over the triples as well. As long as your old steering head bearings are in good shape I'd leave the triples alone.

Yes. Appear to be a direct slide in from measurements made so far.

Only real reason to swap triples is that these are freshly coated with fresh bearings plus mine could probably use a re-grease.

Be a while till I put them in I'm sure. They have an aftermarket spring in them too, the guy couldn't remember which brand.
