    Ward Performance GS1100 build-up

I pulled this from a Sport rider magazine from back in '96 I believe. Rick Ward of Ward Performance Did this build-up on a well used 80,000 mile '81 GS1100EX . He did a 'before' dyno pull @ the counter shaft (engine was out of the frame) . The well worn GS 1100 and all stock engine pulled a very respectable 101 hp thru the factory airbox and stock pipes. So I don't doubt the 105 factory rating at all. Says alot about the longevity and durability of the proven GS1100 16 valve engine. The Pro Stock class has well proven that too. Rick did this build-up for a customers '81. Kind of a 'econo' build. I like it becuse it is simple and cheap and makes very good power for the investment.

Wiseco 1166 piston kit (10.25 cr)
    '83 GS1100 ED cams ( stock cams) set @ 105 both sides
    4 into 1 exhaust
36 mm CV's from the 1150 #50 pilot jets , 140 mains with stock needles
stock airbox (carb side) and K&N filter (RU-1810) (still available)
street ported/cleaned up head with stock valves and good valve job (90-95cfm range)

This mild build-up with the above tune made 135.5 hp @ 8500 rpm and 91.8 lbs TQ @ 6750 rpm. Now this is @ the countershaft. LOOK at the hp improvemnt over the stock high mileage engine on the same dyno. That is just about a 34% improvement in peak power !! WOW !!!!
This would make a VERY streetable and tractable bike for the street with super power even down low. I believe this would make one NICE street bike with enough punch for most of us. Anyway.. I came across this and wanted to share with the GS family,..enjoy.

Not harrd to do with any GSX engine. Thats the whole idea of these things. This had 128hp at the back wheel running 1170 kit, efe cams, 33 smoothbores and Tingate exhaust pipes. Engine came out of brothers Katana that crashed and burned when he hit a dog on the street and i knew it didnt have any head work as i rebuilt it when still a streeter..

VERY nice bike Sharpy. The main theme I liked was the 'Cheap' and easy part. CV carbs and stock '83 cams with the front part of the stock airbox. Easy cheap but very much fun to ride. Cheap and easy,..LOL,. Not really a race build-up. Now with carbs and cams it is easily in the 150 range. BUT that will take it out of the range of some budgets. And with more power up top that will make it less street friendly. With 135.5 at the countershaft that should get you close to the 120 range at the wheel. Not too bad indeed for the investment in time and money. As always..JMHO.
