16valve VS. 8 valve
I have a 79 GS 1085 with a ported and cut head, Web cams. How much more power can be gained through a 16valve head? 16valve head with work and cams?Tags: None

I doubt you'll be able to fit a 16 valve head on top of your engine. This question comes up from time to time. It may not be impossible but very close. You'd need different pistons, the studs would have to line up, and a whole host of things to work around.

you would loose bottom end if you were to do it. it would be a whole lot of work for little gain. get on ebay and get you a 1100g shaft drive head or a 1000 shaft drive head. big gain on port size

Already have the big port head. Didn't realize the head swap would be that big of a pain in the arse.

I believe that the bore centers of the 8v cylinders don't match the 16v head centers because of spacing differences.

yea, have rolled idea around before. and to use 16 valve pistons there are none made that are 73 mm which is your bore. you would need a 1105 piston for a 16 valve. they would need to be made. just to much work.

I’m sure someone has an old 16v head gasket they could send you to check head bolt alignment on 8v jugs.
