1981 GS1000 Carb swap
I have a set of 34mm mikuni flat slides that I bought for another project. How much of an improvement over the stock cv carbs would I see? I know the recomended is 36mm but I have thes on hand and with the new cams and 1085 piston kit It only makes sense to use them. ThoughtsTags: None

1981 GS1000 would be a shafty right? 8V engine? I'm not a hot rod guy but those carbs sound like a good match. I think 36's may be too much.
Edit: when you say "flat slides" are you referring to some stock type CV flatslides or performance type mechanical carbs?Ed

The carbs on our bikes have a round slide that lifts up these have flat ones and an accelerator pump. My camera is not working so I can't post a pic. right now. And I will be using them. I found a sight that did list them and they match up to The stock carbs. So now the next question. Does anybody know a jetting base line to start with? Obviously I will start as they are. They are as from the factory. But with the cams, web 118 grind and wiseco 1085 pistons. I think they might be lean. And That would not be good for a break in period. I will probably start the bike with the old carbs. I think they were a little rich anyway. I hope I don't start a heated debate here. It seems my questions do that.Last edited by Guest; 02-13-2011, 02:48 PM.
