    Drl-400

    I found a deal on e-bay for a Real DYNA DRL 400.
    Ebay

I'll keep the other DyNa knockoff for another project I'm working on.

I'm thinking of using the low limit for when its in neutral or when its not in a gear by using a relay and the gear position indicator.
And maybe the clutch switch for having fun with launching :P

Our bikes supposedly put out 44 hp where as the gs500 with two valve per cylinder puts out only 49. I know it all depends what site you go to and what you look up but those are the numbers I've read more than twice. There are some sites that say 26hp but its not hp. Its Nm.
Its still up in the air, I've never seen a dyno result. Point is: the 4 valve design puts out some good power even with a smaller bore.
So everything below the base gasket is the same on GS500's, 450's and 400's?

What is it that makes the GS500 motors not fit for installation in older gs450's?

The exhaust ports on a 500 point straight where the 450's go out at an angle.

So it's bolt-in other than that? I guess the ports like up with the frame rails.

          Ignition is all the same?

It bolts right up just fine. The only problem is that the exhaust is pointing directly at the frame which is only 4 inches away.

The ignition mounts the same way that the 450 does, The only difference is if you have automatic advance or electronic. After 83 they were all electronic anyways but you can swap all the parts necessary onto either engine.

There is one person on here that did the conversion and the exhaust was the only hard part.

Doesnt a GS300 have a single frame tube up front?

Yep they do... 250's do too I think... but some creative exhaust routing solves the exhaust port issue... I'm not sure what affect (if any) that has on the ability of the exhaust gases to get out efficiently though...

                  Its back :P

And at 4am this morning I've created this:
My head feels as foggy as this picture :P

                  Timing set at 107.5 n 108 ex,
                  Lots of valve clearance now.

What did the clearances work out to Stephen? Ray.

With the new valve releifs in the pistons i think it was almost. 0.130" but I didn't measure it very accurately. I could see there was a lot.

Its coming along good now. The engine is complete and oil primed.

                          Just have to:
                          Buy some new plugs,
                          Charge battery,
Install the 500 ignitor and coils,
                          Install the Dyna 400,
Install a PCV valve and filter,
Curious what the compression will be :P

But to get to the bike I have to get to it on a nice day where I can bring the bike outside and work out in the sunlight.

I'm in a 15x15 shed with two bikes and a snowblower :P Not much room to work.

Holy crap, that's a nice looking motor. Congrats!

I'm just getting into this (late start, I know), but what carbs are you running? Surely not the stock 400 CV's?
