GS1100/1150 Transmission Interchangeability?

Hi!

Can GS1100 and GS1150 transmissions be swapped? If so, is it a simple plug and play or are there other details involved (different gears, changing clutch basket, etc)?

I ask because have been wondering if a GS1150 transmission could be bolted into my GS1100 (16-valve).

It will drop in if you keep the large bearing and sprocket spacer from your 1100 and put it on the 1150 transmission.

Also, the 1100 & 1150 clutch baskets are NOT interchangeable with the other's crankshafts! Ray.

You had mentioned this to me a while back ... and I remembered that detail.
However I was wondering if other items needed to be swapped to permit using the GS1150 transmission in the GS1100.

Bearing is #38, spacer is #46. You will need to use the seal, #40 from the 1100 also.

Are the input and output shafts in both gearboxes (1100 and 1150) of the same length?
I ask because I have an offset front sprocket on order for my GS1100ET and am now wondering if this transmission swap will change that set-up (offset requirement of the sprocket).

The shafts are the same. That is why you have to use the bearing and the spacer from the 1100 engine, to keep your sprocket spacing the same. The 1150 uses a 2mm wider bearing and a 2mm narrower spacer because the 1150 cases have a wider bearing housing.
