I know there's supposedly some GS1000 front end floating around somewhere locally, but if I'm going to mess around with it, I want to put something that's the best drop-in fit available.

And was it a drop in fit? W/dual discs?

Look at the thread on the brakes:

Very interesting!
I'm trying to keep costs minimal for now, but would likely add on to the project in the future.
Did you have any issues with the steering lock or ignition, etc, when fitting the 1100 front end?

Dropping a 1000 front end in is a bit more work on an early 750. There was a post the other day on here that explained pretty well what you need to do.79 GS1000S
79 GS1000S (another one)
80 GSX750
80 GS550
80 CB650 cafe racer
75 PC50 - the one with OHV and pedals...
75 TS100 - being ridden (suicidally) by my father

Are you in Ontario? Make damn sure you can insure it when it's built. One member has had to give up a similar project here in Ottawa due to the fact that no one would insure it afterwards.

No, I'm in N.B.
This bike was previously built up with an 850 motor many years ago, and run in Ontario then. For some reason, my boss then dropped that 850 motor into another bike, and put the 1100 into this.

More information:
Went and turned the motor over today, turned over with no hesitation at all. Excellent!
Motor ID# is GS110X-14****
Frame ID# is GS750 42***
Now, here are some more questions.
1). Who makes a 4-1 exhaust for this bike, still?
2). What's the easiest front end to put on this bike? It has a GS650 front end on it right now (chosen for its double discs up front), but I want something beefier. I already have a GS1100 swingarm ... I was wondering if a GS1100 front end would be an easy swap, or if I could put something else more modern just as easily, for the same money. And, I'm thinking conventional fork, as I don't have the tools to change USD fork seals ... although I think USD forks look great on the GS! Edit: I think I have the GS1100 triple trees already.
Right now, easy is the key word. I don't have a lot of spare time, and I'm no machinist/welder.
3) Finally - I'd love to keep wire wheels front and rear. Is there a bigger spoked wheel I could fit in the back for a bigger tire size, or am I stuck with the stock unit? I know there have been some advances in vintage tyres lately, but I'd prefer something more modern if I could get it.Last edited by Guest; 08-11-2012, 04:04 PM.

I glanced through some of this are am still unsure just which frame you are working with.
Is it a 650 frame? 850G frame? 750E frame? And from which year?

It's a 750 frame, not sure what year, but I think it's 77-79. And that's all I know. It has "standard" bodywork ...
