    Another Pod question

i'm wanting to go to pods on my 79 Gs 750, but i'm concerned that i could get a lot of water sucked in them if i get caught in a rain storm? anybody thought of this?

Some people claim to have experienced issues with side winds and water and others say no issues. My estimation is no major worry. Before you jump though, understand up front that pod filters require rejetting the carbs.

i've got a performance shop retuning the carbs already, but he asked me if i wanted to do k&n pod filters. i just wasn't sure. i'd love to do them i'm jsut afraid of rain causing it to crap out or mess something up going down the highway.

If you are not interested in squeezing out every tiny bit of extra power, and ride in bad weather regularly, I'd skip the pods.

would removing the snorkel and maybe adding a k&n stock replacement help any with power? would it make the intake louder?

Yes. I have the snorkel removed on one of my 1000's.
You may want to go up ONE size in the main jets.

Not too much, not quite as much as pods though.
I can take a video going down the road with sound, later this week.
I have to ride my 1100 today.
I try to give all of them some riding time each week and earlier this week, the 1000 already got some play time.

I run K&N pods and I have been drenched in hellacious rainstorms. Little bits of water will simply vaporize and steam clean the carbon out of your engine. Unless you drive it into a swimming pool, you'll be fine.

+1. I've also been in a deluge or two with pods - no problems.

i may change to them later down the road, but the performance shop that the bike is at should hopefully be done with it by the end of the day. i'm running a stock type k&n filter with the snorkel removed. i will see how it goes and like i said may change to pods later down the road. thanks for all the input!

I was wondering whether to switch to pods or stay with the stock air box a few years ago. Mikuni had a huge booth at Sturgis that year so I talked with some of the reps from the company. These guys knew their carbs. They told me unless I wanted to start racing the bike it would be best to put a k&n replacement filter and stick with the stock airbox as the carbs on my 82 liked to have still air to pull from.

So I switched to the stock K&N and put on a 4 to 1 exhaust and never looked back.

Amazing boost in performance for my old 82 1100 L.

i got my 750 back yesterday and like it a lot! it is sooo much better and i love the noise with the k&n filter in and the snorkel removed. it has that real muscular sound to it now. i just wish i had the money for a 4 into 1. the bike has the mac 4 into 2 with the turn out pipes on it. i gotta say i really despise them! i really want to put the v&h 4 into 1 on it. well, that will be something for another day.
