I am admittedly addicted to the grunt of these GS engines, therefore I am unwiling to sacrifice low and midrange stomp for topend thrills. I do agree totally that noise does not in anyway equal power!!! Loud pipes DO NOT make more power, they just P#ss everyone else off. Equal length is vital in an exhaust system and I agree with Mark that not many aftermarket pipes actually feature equal length headers. I will differ though over header length as I believe that a longer header length is desirable, due to my desire to maintain or even increase midrange torque, and to this end I believe that the best length for a 16 valve GS(X) motor is mid to rear of the sump plate into a large bore collector of about 75% header length.
BTW I base my opinions upon many years experience with motors in general and 18 months working in the aftermarket exhaust industry, plus I have picked the brains of quite a few engine builders too.

We'll have to change this to
        "Quiet exhausts kill perceived horsepower"
A good drag pipe just sounds faster.
