get some pics buddy.........when its complete.

I will katman I promise I'll be updating my web site as well then.

We just decided yesterday that we are going with the 530 chain conversion for this as well. I am going to keep stock gearing and use a good Gold X-ring chain.

The head porting and polishing is almost done. All thats left after that is to glass bead the head and block and put them on! Well, and the carbs need rebuilt and rejetted yet too.

I have GS fever real bad 8O

go pick up the carbs a rebuild and rejet them while you wait for everything eles that way you will save a day or 2 you can use to ride.

        sounds great m8.

the next one may well be a glass bead job too. The powder coating is a big job.

In fact I just pulled it out of the dish washer. Did an outstanding job of cleaning out the blast material. And get this ...... my wife watched me do it. hahahahah

Ryan, he is doing it for me this time. So I am letting him. He can actually get it darn close without the bike running. Then we will break in and tune when he gets back.

OK so we are doing the 530 conversion. What should I know guys? Spacers? Anything at all I should know or do we just bolt up and go?

when you say 530 conversion .... are you saying 5.5 wheel? or just changing the chain?

IF 5.5 wheel than what is your swing arm fork distance?

              This will get you close

530 conversion does require a spacer.

                  MArk,
I did a conversion on my 1000S earlier this year.
All I used were a couple of big washers from the local hardware store
for the primary drive. The rear sprocket just bolted on.
I have a 1100 swingarm on mine, no clearance issues.
I did not have to move the brake stay arm.

It's listed under the performance mods, mixed in with the V&H header
                  issues.....

We are just changing chain and sprockets.

Dink, what spacer do I need? What size? Is the place to order the correct item or should I do as Keith is saying and just use a regular hardware store washer?

Thx Keith, what thickness were they? You say you used 2 7/8 washers I assume that is the size of the hole in them? How thick did they measure? And you didn't put them both on the inside? One on each side of the sprocket? Why on the outside?

The sprockets will still line up.
It was a matter of making sure the chain didn't rub anything, like the inside case or swingarm. I do have an 1100 swingarm, not the stock spindly tube swingarm.
Basically it was an eye ball line up and was perfect.
I ran it in gear, while on the center stand, on the lift and no noise, no weird vibrations, just lined up perfect.

I used them because of the big rubber cush on the primary sprocket.
Figured I needed something to offset the offset

                        keith,
could you please take some pictures of this modification next time you have the cover off. i will be doing the same thing as you, my 1100 swing arm is in route as i type this, i will be replacing both primary and the rear sproket with a 530 and am not to sure how it will all go together. pictures would rock, we could even make a pdf of how to do it later.

how did the 1100 swing arm bolt up, any mods can i use the old swing arm bolt with the new 1100 swing arm?

Well not this week. The chain and sprockets wont be in on time and there wasn't enough time to finish the polishing of the ports before reassembly. Plus the glass bead blaster still needs fixed and I am not going to put it back in the bike before that is done so were looking at late next week at the earliest at this point. This is just another minor set back in what has already turned out to be the longest project I have ever worked on.

                            But it will happen, someday

As I recall it is a 5/8th spacer and it goes outside the sprocket.

Thx Dink. I'll be doing this for sure now so that is helpful.
One question though. The outside? Why would that matter
other than just to make it bolt up? Is that it? So that the nut
doesn't run down onto the collar? So then the sprockets and
chain themselves just line right up?

                                If thats the case cool
