Why not have your old cams reground?

Can I do that? I mean, I know they can be ground but we are looking for larger lobes I thought? If you do this then do you just use larger shims?

I kind of want to keep my stock cams as I have been keeping all the old stock parts as we go. So far everything we have modified I have replaced to do so and I still have all of the stock parts. I kind of want to keep with that. I guess I am sort of looking for a racing cam then right?

See I have no idea what to look for even. Once I do I can do a little research for myself.

I had my cams reprofiled by the bloke who ported the head. Original is 8mm inlet 7.5mm ex lift, mine are 9.8mm for both with different profile. Use better valve springs tho! I still run standard valves in the ported head. Anything more radical will mean a lot more work, and less streetable.

Be warned that these cams will sound louder as they will lack the sound deadening ramp in the cam profile. Also you will likely have to change all the shims to get the right clearance.

Thanks guys. I am looking into this.
My problem is I don't have proper time
right now to do the research needed.

I was hoping for the easy answer

You may want to try a set of cas from a 77-79 GS 750. Little more low end snap.

I'm letting Joe pick them out. He knows what he needs and what is best for that engine. I'm lost so I give in.

I have some pics of the bore if I would ever find time to get around to posting them.

Well Mark, when you get your bike running you'll probably get bored and want to start another project. So you might as well start looking.

I just love winter, that's when I do something special to my bike.

Remember Rob, I put mine back on the bench for another winter now. No more waiting to get it done 8)

I sure hope he comes through for you. I think we all need to get our own machine shops

True story-- A friend was going to replace his 302 for a 351 is his Mustang. He give's me the 302 engine go get it out of his hair. So I rebuilt it with all my go fast parts I had laying around (less than 600 bucks) and put it in my Falcon in a few months.

As for the 351 he has this local racing dude that is suppose to be #1 with 351's. Well 1 year and a couple thousands later he finally get his motor back and it's in the Mustang. The only problem is my Falcon is faster than his Mustang on the street and at the track.

He go's on to say that he should of kept the 302 and let me build it for him and I say your should had. I've been putting 302's in Pinto's for years and now how to make them tick.

Sad part is something let loose in his engine about 6 months later.
I think it's always best to put it together yourself.

                                true enough jake,

I know this guy though and some of the racers he has built engines for. super bike motors and they swear by him for dependability and power. One guy has his own shop but has his engines built by this dude. He is also building what he hopes to be a the Canadian record holder for a street bike. He is an active drag racer and has a very nice bike shop. Does a lot of work on Ducati's even though the local Duc dealer is close by. he is the man to see.

In his defense...It is parts from the U.S. that have been holding us up. I still haven't got my second clutch back with the right gear on it so there hasn't been a rush. Parts are the hold up.
