Isn't it bad for the bike if you shift with no clutch? Won't that break stuff?
Nope. I almost never use the clutch on upshifts and only slightly touch the lever on the downshifts. The type of transmissions bikes have do not struggle much with clutchless shifting if done smoothly. Of course, that applies to a lot of automotive type things. Smooth is good and ham fisted breaks parts...

But they are talking about something totally different. It's a dragbike guys thing
Not just the drag racers, any high level road racing bike will also be equipped with an electric shifter. When they first started appearing, the superbike guys figured they were worth about 0.3-0.5 seconds a lap.

All it is is a switch on your shift lever that momentarily kills the ignition while you shift, taking the load off the tranny while things are moving. To shift you simply move the lever while holding the throttle wide open and the ignition momentarily cuts then picks up again. It is supposed to help with carburation (no sudden closing/opening of the throttles) and of course you lose power for less time this way.

Thx for all the support guys/gals. I am letting this cool off. I have it set up in a way that if anyone wants to redeem themselves and actually finish the work I have ALREADY PAID them for then so be it. And I will be happy.

I will eventually finish this one way or another so it isn't dead. It's just that I am not placing my eggs into this basket anymore since it is likely to get put on the shelf and not make it to market again so to speak.

I am putting my eggs into a basket I know is making the trip.

I'll wake this back up when there is progress, I promise.

he is right, you are plenty intellegent enough to do it. If a halfwit like myself can do it anyone can

As for the electric shifter I just installed the one I had installed in my ZRX in my ZZR........took a little over an hour, that is it after i figured out how to do it the right way I wasted an hour working off my memory and evidently thats not soo good

While I'm not even close to as knowledgable as Swanny, I live much closer and if you ever do need a hand during the week, I probably don't have anything to do and would be glad to lend a hand.

Mostly what I'm good for it holding stuff and general gopher duty.

Well, now that I've bullschitted other one into thinking I know what I'm talking about, I have to admit that I can 'crack wise' while holding stuff and performing general gopher duty. This makes me multi-talented and indispensable around the home and garden.

Hoomie! We are gonna make you a mekenic wether you like it or not!

I should stick to the political forums. Nobody ever accused me of being smart there. Too much pressure here. 8O

We'll see what happens. I can't do anything about this one this time around. The bike isn't even in my possession.

I actually need the builder to finish this.

I am not holding my breath.

Joe, if I get in a pinch I may take you up on that GS loan offer.

I do not want to run my "GS Ride" two years in a row on another non-GS bike.

Let me know if you were serious about that?

I'd have no problem letting you ride my bike. Its still back in E-burg right now but I hope to get it transported this weekend so then I'll have both the Bus and the GS. I have some simple rules:

                      1. No suing me
                      2. Wear a helmet
                      3. Try really hard to not crash
                      4. No teasing Skip with it
                      5. You have to give it back

Un-reasonable?? He has to ride the pile of Kawasaki around, I thought that was enough.

I think compliance with all of those will not be a problem

Thx Joe, I'll let you know. I am still being told it will be done in time but I am not holding my breath as I have been told that before. A call last night revealed that the parts have still not arrived Not sure what to believe anymore. Call me Monday, call me Wednesday, call Friday, call me Monday, call me at the end of the week, call me on Monday, call me, call me, oh look, it's 2006. Sorry you missed ANOTHER year with your GS. :x

Anywho, I may be taking you up on it. You're a true friend indeed to offer it. I am an excellent rider, no worries for the care of your bike. If I did damage something, I would fix or pay to have it fixed. It's all good.

The fact that he rides that pile of Kawasaki is all the more reason to taunt him.
