    Hey Mark

If the old one is still working why change it. A trigger is just a trigger, new or old. If it works with your coils you should be Okay. Murphy's law states if you install the new part it will fail and you'll have to re-install the old one.

Now if you want one with 5 different ignition settings then that's a different story.

Because I want the old one for my daily rider which has points. I don't want to put the new part in the bike I am not restoring. Two birds, one stone thing

Now that said, pretend it has no ignition. What should I put in it?

Then I'd go for the basic Dyna S ignition with your coils. You'll even get rid of that little ignitor box too.

They are around $152 at Schnitz, don't know about the other places.

Cool, I believe that is what's in it now? It doesn't have the little ignitor box now. Hasn't since 1994.

So just a new one then. Thanks buddy

Get a rev limiter while you are at it, for those missed shifts and over exited moments, make it a stutterbox dual limiter for fun at the lights!
            (is stutterbox a Euro expression?)

Discouragement had the best of me. All my web sites always end up like that. Out of date. Your right though

Because some naive, hopeful, person thought his bike was actually going to be done soon

I have the guy who knows his stuff working on this Rob. And we are very good friends. But the bottom line is that he is simply too busy to take on this kind of work. Period. I did not know that when I asked him to rebuild this engine. I never had him do a complete overhaul and re-mod before. I am now a much wiser individual. I will NEVER get into a situation like this again.

I myself simply do not have the time. I needed to be able to just pay someone and have them do the work. I did my part, I am still waiting on "them".

Anywho, that is why I let this thread idle a lot. I figured that this project would be interesting and right up the GS motor head's alley so to speak. I wanted to do this for fun and wanted to share it with others of like interest like you. What I feel I have ended up with is a ridiculous situation and a project that is laughable.

I am going to finish this bike. And the way I want it. But I can see now that it will take years and years for it to reach that point.

                          Someday buddy, someday :?

If it is any consolation to you, the parts I got from you are all going into this thing and are at the heart of the mods that are in the works right now.

I am currently rebuilding the smoothbores. They are completely disassembled and being dipped. All new o-rings, gaskets, jets and needles are on order. We got the specs from your buddy

Same with the cams. Because of them we had to rethink the head and valve design. I figure the engine to be done this year. Then I'll finish the cosmetics and suspension parts of the project on my own later. In another thread!

The latest news since you ask is parts for the carbs are on order. A new Dyna - S ignition is on oder. K&N pods on order. Most of those are probably in by now. I haven't checked in since early last week. The head is now ported and the valve seats are cut in for the new one piece stainless steel valves ( click here for picture ). The head needs some touch ups yet to seal a few pinholes and then some polishing and it will be done.

I have no idea when that will happen :?

Thanks for asking my friend. Your parts are going to good use. No worries

                          Rock on???

Don't hurry there..I still haven't organised all my gaskets yet. I should rebuild the bike over the summer, ready for registration late next year. It will be going before then of course...unless I go riding too much on the ST!!!

Just a small update. Half the carb parts came in. No ignition or pods. Head work is in progress. There is a discrepancy with the air bleed we were told to use and availability which doesn't show one that size. 06?
