    Gs1085 Bhp figures

my Gs1085s puts out around 68ftlbs of torque 90hp on a dyno?.
fitted Dyna coils and Grey HT leads V&H pipe with comp baffle.
heads been flowed on the road it pulls hard ,im just thinking if i fit say a better set of
carbs than stock 28mm mikuni ,i could get even more power.
Thinking of a set of 33mm off a GSXR,would do the trick as people keep telling me it should nearer 125Hp what are your thoughts on this?.

Rapid Ray would know better but my guess larger carbs would be worth maybe 5-7 hp.

125 hp for an 8 valve 1000 is very unlikely, unless you use nitrous.

Before I had Gs bored to a 1085cc done about 85,000miles it put out 78Bhp we thought it went well one up but struggled two up.
so i thought 12bhp gain was about right ,but i wonder if the Bull sh*t files come in to play.

"Bull sh*t files"? You talking about the people that say you should be making 125 hp? People throwing those numbers around don't know sh*t about 8V GS engines.

            are you running stock cams?

i would try a set of webcam and see what they do. The stock stuff is pretty mild. +10 increase with higher compression and better flowing head seems very small.

while it was on the dyno did you have them sniff it to check you air/fuel mix was good?

cams im using are new Gs1100g which have slotted Ape sproxs and degreed in.
my stock cams were badly worn.

nearly forgot AFR reading was a shade rich but operator said leave it alone as it was so nr to spot on.

I only got a few bhp going 1085, but I remained stock on carbs and exhaust

However, it is anything but weak, it's a torque monster

I agree with the others, to get over 100 bhp you've got to have bigger carbs, 4-1 and cams

The 1100 cams aren't that much different than stock

Running .348" lift Webcams set at 108 degrees and a set of Keihin FCR39's my stock bore, non-ported head GS1150 made 125,51hp at the rear wheel, and this was with a 520 racing chain.

With stock cams and carbs, I'd be happy to get 110 out of that 8-valve GS. To reach 150 with one of those, you'd need a few hundred extra CC's, hotted-up camshafts, proper carburetors and a nice flow job on the head. Hell, even with that you'd be struggling.

I got a 1230cc big bore in my GS1150 now and a race ported head with bigger valves. It should be making around 150-155hp at the wheel, but no more than that.

Do you ride your 1229 on the street? What are you running for cams? What temp are you running? What weight oil?

I got given the new 1100g cams in exchange for my badly worn stocks one as was told that by my Engine builder,I just wanted bit more power as i ride two up quit a bit.
know im wondering if a better set of carbs (bigger) would give me a bit more power.
but i just want a reliable motor as top speed dont realy matter anymore.

A set of 33 smoothbores will do wonders for power. In YOUR case, I would guess probably 10 or so more hp. You could even gain power with a set of 34 CVs or the 36 CVs from an 1150. I would go the bigger CVs for what you are wanting, with riding 2 up. Even with those, over your current 28s, you should see at least 5 more hp. A set of Web cams will help also with the head work you have done already. Ray.
