    29MM Smoothbores

    hey guys,

I have a 1978 suzuki gs 750, and i was wondering what you guys would think the setting would be with stock airbox and stock exhaust with 29MM Smothbores for carbs. The original setting are 15 slow and 102.5 main and 2nd clip from the top for my needle sre stock for my bike. it came this way because i think that it had a fairing on it from the begining and i guess the mechanic that put this together thought that the fairing messed up the airflow, maybe? maybe not?. anywho, whatever you guys think.

    Thanks Everyone in advance

Do you have 29 smoothbores, or are you considering buying some?

Most folks here would be fitting pods to those carbs, so you may not have a yardstick for the jetting with the stock airbox.

I have a set of 29's for my project 850 and will be running the airbox and a Cycleworks 4-1 pipe with them.

I'll start with 17.5 pilots, 5DL31-3 needles (3rd position clip) and 117.5 mains. They will be running on a mildly tuned 1023 cc engine and will still require some fine tuning, but mainly on the needles.

The answer differs a fair amount depending what slide cutaway you get when you find some 29's. Originally, most sets of VM29's for Suzuki models came with 2.0mm slide cutaway and large pilot jets (25.0). All the versions sold for Kawasaki (and Honda) models came with 1.5mm slide cutaways. If you get one of these sets, you will be running a fairly small pilot jet (17.5 or 20.0)

Very good point Jeff. I'm running 1.5 cutaways slides on my 29's.
