    How to weight a bike?

I'd like to learn the true weight of my modified 550. Anyone have an idea of how to go about it?

Weigh yourself at home, with all of your riding gear on, then find a scrap yard that will let you drive on to their scale, then do some cipherin'.

Go to the nearest truck stop. Might cost a couple bucks.

Stand on your bathroom scale and pick up your bike...then subtract your weight...
        Easy-peasy...

I have seen it done by placing the front tire on a bathroom scale, then alternating with the rear. Adding together gets the weight. I don't think it would be as accurate as the other scales mentioned but it might be easiest.

Let us know what you figure out and what it comes too.

          Cheers,

near by landscape materials place might do you a favor. The kind where you can drive up your vehicle, weigh it, the load it up with dirt/mulch/rock/etc, then drive back on to determine your cost of materials...

The bathroom scale is very accurate, if you have the other whaal on a block the same hieght as the scale.

Toughest part is getting your bike into the bathroom.

Air freight shipping companies generally have scales large enough for palletized freight, and that's bike size.Thats how I weighed my 750 kat.

Why not simply weigh all the parts you lopped off and put on.

Any larger scrap yard will have a drive on scale for trucks(accuracy questionable) Or a large (4x4 foot) inside floor scale . You could throw a 7 board on it for your wheels span. They might just be humored enough by your request to weigh your bike that they will do it for you for nothin.

Stay away from scrap yards with your bike, your likely to end up with a nail, screw or piece of scrap metal in your tire or tires, they're not that particular in cleaning the road/lot, if you don't take landspeedrich up on his offer, then a landscaping gravel/mulch yard, won't charge you to just pull up on their scale, walk in the building and ask, hey what does that weigh, may a buck or 2 if you want an actual weight slip.

Depending on how accurate your want your weight, you don't want to use a truck stop.

Yeah, their scales are supposed to be certified, but with a resolution of 20 pounds or so.
That means that if the scale shows "500", it could be anywhere from 490 to 510.
