First Time down the Track this Year

I finally made a few pass like 16 down our 1/8 mile track on Friday. I was a little rusty cause my 60ft time where not even in the 170's but it was starting to come back to me.

Now I'm running a 1166 this year and the bike is alot and I mean alot stronger, so much that I was spinning my 150 size tire in second and third gear. My ET and MPH was slower than last year, best ET was 7.35 at 96 mph. I know the bike can do alot better but now I have a traction problem. So I'm waiting on a GSXR swingarm to arrive so I can mod and stuff a 5.5 rim with a M/T 7 inch slick in it and that should solve that problem.

So i did'nt break into the 6's or 100mph yet but that's ok cause I know it's just a matter of time. I know the bike has the power to get there. It was doing power wheelies in 2 & 3 and the front wheel was doing alittle dancing too, that was cool and I was'nt at WOT, I might just have to get some wheelie bars too so I can get on the throttle faster.

I going to slap my 34cv's back on just to see the difference as compared to the 38cv's. And I still have'nt dialed in the G4 cams either, need to buy the gage too.

PS. An airshifter is the next best thing to sex. I should of bought one 10 years ago

Good to hear you are back to the track. I have missed our last 2 track dates because of rain. I mean, I am in Southern California, and it hardly ever rains, but we are getting our share of it now. Looks like I will be starting off the Summit Series on March 6th without having a chance to test my mods out first, so will have to do it on the fly. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!

                  Hi Ryan

Last night I made just a few 1/8 runs, like 19 I was swapping out jets halfway through the night. I tried 150's size jets and the bike felt a little lean at launch so in back went 160's on 1&4 and 165's in 2&3. I was running VP 103 too and the bike was running strong. Best ET's was 7.08 at 100.67mph and another was 7.04 at 99.60. My 60ft times were 1.78 and 1.77. I really need a slick and wheelie bars cause I'm leaving alot at the starting line. I'll be pulling the plugs today and checking them and maybe buy some 170's jets. This bike just like's alot of fuel.

On one run I had a good launch and mid way through 2nd gear the front wheel rose up off the ground, and I mean up and I had to back off or my butt would be on the ground.

I still need to degree the G4's in and was thinking of replacing the front 14T with a 15T. I'm running a 41T in the rear and that would give me a 2.73 ratio ?? maybe better or not.

If you have any ideals send them my way.

PS I downloaded alot of your video's. I like the bike's you filmed even yours maybe one day I'll have a bike like that.

I have trouble with the jetting thing. I finally took it to a dyno with a sniffer. I was able to tell exactly from the exhaust gasses if the bike was lean or not. I found out I was a bit on the rich side so I leaned it out. I figure to do the same thing once the weather warms up. I'm changing the combination around so I figure the old jetting will be way off.

I would think with your setup your MPH would be higher. It seems like the mph is a good indicator of the HP your bike is putting out. I wonder if you could degree the cams and then see if you have a dyno shop around with an exhaust gas anylizer. Looking at the plugs now probably wont tell you much.

Anyway, I'm glad to see someone gets to have some fun.

Glad you had fun (19 passes!) Anyway, I remember back in the 70's that we would change jets for the evening races to richer, because the air was cooler and denser than during the day (South Texas), and thus we went faster.

About your times: My VTR100 (stock) runs an average 7.6 at 97 (best 7.5 at 99) and these are all with lousy launches (2.2 60 foot times). It also always does nice second gear wheelies the rest of the way down the track. So, I would think your idea about going back up a tooth to 15 on the countershaft will bring your mph up and possibly lower your times as having the front wheel up does slow you down.

Good luck and keep us posted. My next event (with my GS750) will be the Summit Series opener at Barona on March 6th. I am installing the 530 conversion 15/49 and a dyna rev limiter on this weekend. I just got a MT slick, but don't know if I will have time to fool with that, looks like it might not fit.

                      God Bless!

                        Thanks Guys

My biggest problem is traction, I just need a slick and wheelie bars now.

I did find a set of bars so that takes care of half of my the problem. Maybe in a few months I'll find that 5.5 rim. I'm really thinking hard about a lockup clutch too.

Next week I'll run that 15T up front and will see.
