    higher speed top end power?

ok long story short...rode with r-1 an cbr 900 today..with me being in corner acceletaing out it seems like my bike dont accel very good..rather slow to be honest past 70 mph

bike is stock minus 4-1 header, and carbs jetted(120)..i had spacers on the needles..which i took out cause it poped crusing town...

will a extra stock spacer help any on this? or do the bikes not have much acceleration at that speed

    bike is a 81 850

Keeping up with an R1 or CBR of any size is not going to happen. Even a little 600cc super sport puts out more power than your 850. Maybe not as much torque.
What rpm are you running your corners at? If you're putting out of them in 4th or 5th gear at 3000 rpm, theres not going to be much power. Keep the revs up to 5K or higher, and you'll see some umph. 120 on the main?? What's stock 112.5? 115? That seems as though it may be a bit too large for just a pipe.

I'll bet on the R1 all day long.

You have a low compression engine that turns half the RPMs of the modern sport bike, with no brakes, crap suspension and a lot more weight.
It's just not going to happen unless you are a much better rider that the r1 guy is.

But it's fun win it does happen.

If you don't have adjustable needles, & aren't a tuner, your bike will NEVER run to it's potential. Get a correct jet kit & make it run right FIRST. Ray.

What are you doing with these spacers? Something doesn't sound right there.

Oh, and you bought the wrong bike if you wanted speed, although with a good pilot an 850 will get down the road quite nicely.

but coming out of a corner at wot it dont climb very fast..

but since people are smartasses here( some arnt i thank you)..i figured it out..

my hortondisconbobulator was a bit to far forwards

i guess its a bad thing to gs people to have some fun in corners and some highway wheelies n silly things like that

So you buy the heaviest pig in the lineup of old slow GSes and your ****ed because it won't wheelie like an R1?

                  Get real.

lol chill take a joke...i got it cause i wanted a bike an i have practically nothing in it..its just till i can save enough for a gsxr(which will be never..thanks obama)

who says it wont wheelie like an r-1...enough throttle combined with some hard pulling up motion it might do it...

still i dont see why you guys hafta be so rude about it..its a simple question...i wanted a simple answer...

You WANT to be able to wheelie?

No it wasn't a simple question, it was a poorly written question. I've read it several times and still don't understand it. Are you asking if these bikes are slow? No, not until you compare them with faster bikes. Are you asking if there is something wrong with yours? I don't now, I haven't ridden yours. You haven't really described how it runs, only that you can't keep up with the faster bikes.

An 850 needs to be wound out to make much power, are you doing this or chugging it out Herdly style?

And now you want to wheelie a GS850 at 70mph?

                        BWAAhahahahahahahaaa!!!!!

ok so people should tell me they dont understand...vs posting crap assuming stuff..

i usually came out of corners at about 5-6k rpm...just seemed like it took forever to get back to 5th...now if we hit some sharp corners say im in 3rd...well 3-rd to mid 4th isnt to bad...after that its sluggish..

if you are at 5-6k rpm coming out of a turn, I would be in a lower gear, keep it 7-9k+ rpm
+1 on getting a proper jet kit
