How about 1100 rpm? does it seem to vary too much for your liking?

Nah, it stays pretty well where I put it. Just curious about what is considered ideal.

Most GS models are supposed to be somewhere between 900 and 1100 RPM. I generally kept mine on the high side of the gap, they just never seemed to sound like they cared for anything below 1000rpm to me. Of course those gauges aren't the most accurate or easy to discern small increments on, so what looked like 900rpm to me could have been 700...

I do have a question for the air-cooled motor experts out there though:
Currently this area of the country is in the midst of near record temps (mid to upper 90s and it's only May...July is gonna suck!!) and summers in the Ohio valley can feel like a little slice of Hell with the combo of high temps and high humidity and still air. Would it be better on an air cooled motor in those conditions to run a slightly higher idle or lower? I've seen arguments both ways, the higher idle people saying that a slightly higher idle moves oil more quickly, and the slightly lower idle people saying a higher idle builds more heat than faster moving oil will cure...

        What say you??

          Don't let the bike idle.

Never had a problem with a GS in heat, even in Arizona summertime riding.

I overheat long before the bike does, got to keep moving.

With the 16 valve 750 engines this may not be true.
