On the other hand, if you don't get it right you might lose a lot more than a little.
The 1100 8 valve is a shafty - you've got plenty of poke already. Not worth the carrot.79 GS1000S

A lot of headers are little more than bent tubes and you may even loose power compared to the stock exhaust system. The chart below may give you some ideas what you can gain, or loose.

I don't think it makes much difference unless you dwell in high rpms. On an 1100, that will translate to lots of noise or speeding tickets.1983 GS 1100 Guided Laser

I find working on my motorcycle mildly therapeutic when I'm not cursing.

You can expect more low-range to mid-range torque and if the main jet is right you should have between 5 and 10 MPH top end. I’m running a 4to1 Mac on my 1100GL with OEM airfilter and 125 main jets (little rich). I’m over 250lbs and roll-on wheelies are too easy.
The GS100EX (GS1100EX?) dyno chart doesn’t allow for jet changes needed when changing brands of exhaust so it’s results are no good. Simply put the airbox lid back on and put 107.5 stock main jets and the stock exhaust will out perform the rest. You simply can bolt on an exhaust and compare it to another without jetting the motor for each exhaust system.

Bolt on performance is an oxymoron. Unless you are willing to re-engineer the motor from top to bottom you will at best see 1-3 horsepower more. And spend more time tinkering than riding.
I have a 4-1 on mine and it sounds different, midrange power "seems" better, but it's not that noticeable.1981 GS650G , all the bike you need

So, why not just buy a newer bike?
So, why not just get a newer, more powerful bike?
Makes good sense to me, take advantage of all the progress made by top notch factory race engineers.
They been working/testing every night and day, since your bike was manufactured.
You can't beat em.
I can't believe how many people just don't get that concept…Last edited by Buffalo Bill; 07-09-2012, 02:24 PM.1982 GS1100G- road bike
