different tree clamps and shocks
i have a chance at getting a different front end setup for a steal, but before i pull the trigger i figured i would ask the world of gs. a setup has caught my eye and it might be a long shot but the have seen front shocks with the triple trees for cheap off a 1985 gs550e nothing is wrong with them, i like the way they look and they have the shock adjustments on the out side bottom of the shocks. would they fit my 78 gs550e and what would i have to do to make them work. i am cautious about it cause i am not sure if the my rotors would have to be changed or if it would work at all thank youTags: None

If they are the same diameter you might be better off putting the fork legs in your stock triple trees....
The triple bearing should fit (or be convertable - ball to taper type) but you'll probably have to work out steerer stops, ignition plate, something to hold the gauges etc.
Doesn't the 85 have clip-on handlebars too?
